Norton 360 Questions

My netbook has Norton Int Protection and it's time to renew. itcosts $50 to renew that subscription. But for $60 we can get Norton 360 for three computers, although this is on CDs compared to a download for the renewal. T will be geting a new computer soon. When going to checkout, they are suggesting we get their download insurance for $7. That doesn't make sense to me if we are buying CDs. If we get the 360 is there any time limit for installing it on the 3 computers? Am I missing something? Seems deceitful to sell download insurance when you're not downloading anything. Anybody know about this?

I stopped paying for firewall and antivirus software many many years ago and have only had one problem in all that time.

I use the following (Free versions):
http://free.avg.com/us-en/download?prd=afg (AVG anti Virus)
http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm (Zone Alarm firewall)

I used to use norton but learned two things long ago
1) They are a PITA to uninstall if you need to (likely fixed)
2) They are extremely bloated and are resource hogs (likely still a problem)

Some of my IT friends love AVG but more are into Kapersky. I love Kapersky as it has a very small footprint on your computer.

NORTON IS THE WORST as far as footprint (resource hog) goes. Don't do it. If you do and want to switch down the road, good luck. Norton is a real PITA to uninstall as Tony pointed out.

Norton came on the computer. Will I have a problem if I let it just expire. Would I also have to remove it? This is on a notebook that is slow with two gig of ram.

You can uninstall it before it expires or just let it expire and then remove it. Removing it and replacing it with a more friendly program(s) like we mentioned will actually free up resources and make your comp a little faster

To fully remove it you may need a utility IIRC in order to get all the processes gone. Life will be much faster once you get the Norton Monkey off your shoulder.
