I have a bunch of large pocillopora colonies that I'm going to likely remove from my main display to clear some space. Very healthy corals. Zero pests in my display.

I'm going to put them for sale on FB, but if anyone here would like one, or a big chunk, let me know. I'll take offers of free stuff, or receipts donations to charity, as optional trades, but I'm also happy to give away free.

Various colonies:

Redwood City. I'm not in a rush, but should be able to grab one for pickup this weekend if interesting

Captive bred coral is a good thing lol!

Question: if you start with just one frag, will it be capable of spawning on its own? Or would you need a male and female? I’m a bit ignorant on coral spawning

Pocillopora polyps simply detach from any frag and float in the water column till they settle on a hard surface. That spawn grows in to its own full blown colony. if not immediately scraped off, they will eventually take over your tank.

GSP is great. Pocillopora are great. GSP will spread, so you need to isolate and maintain. Pocillopora can also spread in the ways you noted, so you should be aware. Pocillopora to someone beyond us non deep reefer nerds looks the same as a Stylophora and like a cooler, fuzzier stick (acro).

I take no offense, but I also think we should all stop ragging on these things. Worst case being the examples where newbies offer up there first frags, which are probably Xenia or GSP because they look awesome and grow well, and then folks neg them hard. Again, I don't take offense given I know the responders and what you mean, but I think we should stop doing that.

Especially given the delineation can be arbitrary since in my tank the actual biggest issue is I have so many encrusting montis growing like crazy that even those will become a nuisance.

------

Back on topic, continue to feel free to contact me if you're interested. Otherwise I'll sell them on FB.

lol I’ve listened to the reefing nerds scream bloody warning about GSP and Xenia since day one, and it’s never become a problem. I still have my first piece of GSP and for whatever reason, everyone was wrong. Grew slowly and all my stony corals took off instead. It’s the same group of people that are have hardcore “collector-itis” and don’t really care about the actual wellbeing of these animals that echo these reefing warnings. Every coral is cool, and it detracts from what I love about the hobby when people rag on a certain coral.

The mechanism isn’t actually known. I asked Richard Ross and he mentioned they are brooders and that they might actually just be doing real spawning

Bailing might also be possible. They aren’t mutually exclusive

I just started trying GSP on my back wall. And while I’m hesitant to put xenia in the main tank, I do want a little xenia tank for clowns. Maybe in college, when I have less time.

I just start GSP on my wall to both on my coral display tank and my fish only tank also. I got both gsp and Xenia from the frag swap of someone is giving them away. Got the Xenia growing in my sump for fish only tank

Are there any fish that are known to eat GSP or Xenia reliably?

The "grass" (GSP) in my tank is the main thing people comment on, after the snails and shrimp. Some day I'm going to create a really pompous website with "sold out" named acros and then a "limited edition" named GSP with frags at $99. I guarantee it'd sell out.

That'd be crazy to hear if anyone had something that did. I'm imagining something just living off a never ending Xenia and GSP growth.

When I had both pulsing Xenia and GSP in my first reef those are the corals EVERYONE would point out first lol. Even before the hammers/zoas/torches. I think they’re great beginner corals and even nice corals to have later on if you isolate them. I do agree it’d be nice to get away from this negative outlook on them. Like any other coral, they have their place. A lot of coral I’ve noticed have their value “increased” by crazy names. I honestly don’t know half the names of the coral I have, especially the torches because a lot look similar but people call them different things. I tend to just buy based off what I like

No there aren't any fish that we keep in our hobby. Maybe some large fish in the wild.

I currently have takers for all I have available at the moment, without resorting to breaking the bigger pieces into smaller pieces.

If anyone else is interested feel free to message and I'll see what I can do.

Folks have until this weekend to message because I ripped up my hands in a bike crash over the weekend and I'm waiting for them to heal before touching anything near a tank.

Sorry to hear about the crash, hope you are alright!

Here's the pieces I'll cut off today. People who have messaged me directly can pick. @Srt4eric will get first pick cause of his overall help. Others can pick claim here.

I'll try and get a pick after I cut them since I'll probably butcher the cutting.

If you want any of these shrooms lmk as well, I have multiple available.

After these are claimed I can see if there's others if there's more people.
