Question about GPH/flow of my tank.

Hey all,

New reefer here, I tried to do some research on my own about this topic but seemed like I was getting a lot of different opinions so I thought I'd ask y'all.

Some people are saying that 150-200 GPH is plenty for a 20 gallon tank. While some are saying that they run 500~ GPH on 20 gallon tank. Some people are running 2 power heads even.

While I understand that really depends on what type of corals you want to keep, I want to do my best to make sure I'm not doing anything that'll be overkill for my tank.

I have a 20 gallon long tank, UNS 90LA Peninsula, to be exact. I have nero 3 installed on 1 side of the tank running on random mode 15-30% speed. On the opposite side, I have the Fluval Sea CP2 running. I only plan on keeping LPS/Softies/Zoa for the time being until I'm more "experienced" before trying with SPS. Do yall think my setup is an overkill? Or will it be ok? Any tips would be helpful!

Thanks!

Flow is very much individual. I like stronger flow because I claim it keeps cyano away, and other stuff which might accumulate on the sand or rocks.

But you will see your corals not opening up properly if you have too much flow.

The ones you want to keep certainly prefer less flow so one Nero should be plenty, and you can play around with the intensity.

P.S.: Welcome to your club :)
