Just upgraded into a 400 gallon system and was wondering if this recipe from Randy still holds up to 2026 standards. I used to get by with ESV on the 180 gallon system but with the jump up its making me think about these DIY methods to help the finances. Anybody using his mix? any ill effects? thoughts.

I use it. Order the materials on Amazon.

5 cups mag flake, 3 cups mag sulfate to a gallon or so. Doesn’t really matter how much water you use. As long as your constant in the mix.
Been using it forever maybe 10-15 years ?

I've used it for years too. Note that you're going to want a really airtight container for the MgCl since it's hygroscopic.
