Recirculating Protein Skimmer

I use to run one for years. This was about 20 years ago. It was huge. Double recirculating pump Deltec. The pro is they don’t over flow. Well mine never did. They are supposed to skim better. More efficient with the bubbles.
The con is you need an extra pump and they take up a lot of space. I ran mine in the garage which was a little lower than my aquarium. So I gravity feed it from the overflow, Then returned to the sump. So I didn’t need a feed pump.

Do they still make those? I ran an H&S recirculating skimmer outside of my sump. Loud as hell, but all there was back then was AC pumps. Once dialed in you can pretty much forget about it.

I eventually switched it out to an ATI bubble master because of the heat generated by the pumps. They're great for really large systems. MRC and lifereef made really popular ones. For those with endless budget, it was Deltec..

Thinking of changing yours out?
