Reef-Pi thoughts?

Hey everyone,

I've been pretty interested in the thought of reef automation via testing and DIY stuff, so I came across Reef Pi through R2R. I just wanted to know if anyone in here has any experience with that, or if anyone in our local club actually runs a raspberry-pi controlling/testing system on their tanks. What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Check out the plug and play hardware.

As more hardware folks enter the market. It’s a good alternative to closed off system with shitty hardware.

Do you happen to use a reef pi? I need to read deeper into the guides about it

I have never used reef-pi, but I have done a lot of DIY on the aquarium.
As a basic controller, it is likely fine.
When it comes to DIY, often the hardware is great, but software (especially debug) is lacking.

Some key things to really look for:
1) Ability to properly run and reconnect to internet after a power failure.
2) The ability to check your tank status from any device anywhere.
3) Run for a couple of years without a reboot.

I don’t. But I am considering venture down that path as I don’t like the quality of a specific company’s products or the ways that specific company practices its business. But I get it, you gotta be in the business to make $$$.
