Sooo I’ve been going back and forth on the tank I wanted since I moved back in April. I still haven’t made an indefinite decision so in the mean time I grabbed an advanced acrylics 6ftx2ftx1ft EXT frag tank, sump and ATO res back in August and I love it. It was a prolonged build, but definitely worth it.

Ill post pics of the journey and will update this journal going forward.

Stand is a Gladiator work bench from Home Depot
Custom built control cabinet from a sheet of 3/4” ply I had in the garage.
All black plumbing
Light bar is 10 series from T-Nutz

Lights -
Display - Gen 4 XR15 (x5) -
Each light is on its own channel for gradual PAR increase

450 on the top right, 250 bottom right

Screen top is under construction since I have the 3 wrasses and an orchid dotty from @L/B Block. Especially since I already had a chromis jump the first week the rest of the shoal was moved over.

Unfortunately BRS sent my jump guard kit and it was missing the screen. We got it sorted out.. took BRS 2 weeks lol but it finally came in yesterday, so that will be done soon enough.

Who are you looking to re home? the sail fin or the long nose black? I’d be interested in the black if his size is right.

-you mean the chromis @Reefinglens -as I would never give up wrasses!! Glad you got them before my tank wipeout

Oh, I bought the yellow band possum wrasse trio. Lol
I was referring to the dottyback that I got from you that started being aggressive toward either your wrasse or goby. And it being a potential jumper just like wrasses. Thus the screen top being a necessity
 
Decided to tie in a side tank. Was going back and forth on making it an SPS box or a refugium.. I decided it will be my “hate it or love it” box.

Petco’s 15gal cube, reinforced the silicone seams with black silicone, painted every pane and bottom black, except the front of course. And drilled it for the Fiji cube overflow box.

I’m going to keep an anemone, Xenia, blue star polyps, GSP and some macro algaes. So I guess it will be kind of like a refugium.

Now time for more plumbing. o_O

They went in yesterday after 20 days in a QT using Humblefish methods then transferred into an observation tank for 12 days. They’ve been exploring the tank together and immediately started grazing.

Something to note is that this pair would still be considered juvenile fish based on their size at about 3-3.5” ea. so honestly things can change with time. Once they get about 7-8” they will be going to a 500+ gallon system.
While in QT, (which was a 29 tall Aqueon) they were separated by an acrylic divider to observe for any aggression. After 1 week of no aggression being displayed, the divider was removed and their behavior was further observed for 2 more weeks. During their QT they were treated for internal and external parasites, then were transferred into an established 40 breeder that only houses 3 clown fish that I’ve had for several years. They were further observed for aggression to make sure they weren’t just mellow from the copper and medications, that they were eating well and that they didn’t show any signs of stress or disease. After a couple weeks of grazing, eating everything that I throw into the tank (nori, 1mm-3mm pellets, frozen mysis and brine) and showed no sign of aggression nor disease, they went into the flat. If the least bit of aggression was shown at any point they would’ve been separated and one would have been rehomed.
I work from home so that makes my QT and thorough observation processes for new fish possible.
 
Nice to see two powder blues together. Frag flat is looking great! That’s more than enough room for the both of them. With the aggression sometimes you just need to let them work it out. They’ll establish who’s boss and eventually get along. It helps to always have nori available so it keeps them busy. Keep two nori clips in the tank one at each end. I’ve noticed once they eat together they’ve accepted each other to be apart of the tang gang.

If it does get to the point of you needing to separate one of them, put one in an acclimation box for 2 weeks. Then try reintroducing them again. I had to do that 3 times before one of my black tangs was accepted into the gang.
