I want to install a RO faucet (dual RODI unit) in my new rental house but I see this air gap fitting all ready installed. My question is it possible to detache it and hanging it under the sink as high as possible to replace it with a RO faucet. Thank you.

Yes. That vent is for an over flow just in case. If you relocate it under your sink. Secure it as high as possible because it can leak water

It's actually against code in California not to have an airgap on your washing machine.

Do not just detach it and leave it high under your sink. If you're going to run without one run it like this.
