Hey! I'm wondering if there are any Sacramento reefers on this forum. I moved to Sac from San Diego late last year and was wondering how big the reefing community is up here. Also do y'all count Sac as a part of the bay area? I frequent San Carlos because my brother lives out there and so I'm hoping to be more involved in some of the weekend meet ups/frag exchanges ect but being from SoCal I'm wondering where does the "bay area" end to the folks up here?

Anyways here's a picture of my tank for attention. Please dont mind the poor quality, I was excited my Yasha Goby was hanging out with my clowns.

Welcome! I would definitely count Sacramento to the Bay Area - you have a great store nearby with Aquarium Depot - and we usually draw the line after Fremont (haha).

Seriously, I believe we even have members out of the country, so, in my opinion, it does not matter where you live if you want to be involved.

Next steps would be to start a tank journal so we understand what you have going on. Nice looking tank!

I love Aquarium Depot! It really is a special place and has a lot of variety. I went to neptune the other day which is also an insane LFS. I love the display tanks and can spend so long just staring at those. Haha to me I always thought anything north of SJ and south of Redwoods is basically the bay.

I have a thread! I just haven't had the time to update it in about 7 months ... I should get to that haha.

I don't know the state of MARS but BAR is an excellent club, as a former sac resident.
Whats MARS? BAR is definitely a special club. I've been in the aquarium hobby since college and trying to do anything aquatic while in school is a huge financial challenge. I feel like reefing in general is unecessarily expensive at times and often find that the cost is more of a barrier to entry than anything. How are we supposed to grow the hobby if no one can afford it? I think DBTC is an amazing program to promote the hobby while also reinforcing the community too.

Mars was the sacramento club (Marine aquariaists of Sacramento) but as far as ive found they no longer exist other than a group on Facebook posting random used equipment every now and then.

AD isn't my favorite shop but I haven't been in there for over a year.

I wish Your Reef was thriving. Aqua Life was nice but I won't do business with them anymore.

Aqua Workz and O Street closed a long time ago and there's that shady place off MLK... Exotic aquarium?

Sac is spoiled for reef stores. There were a lot of awesome reefers in the area too. It's a shame mars isn't active anymore

exotics saltwater section is a ugly shadow of what it used to be. the seem to mostly concentrate in freshwater and reptiles now
