I recently "upgraded" the return pump on my IM50 to the Orlushy DC5000 and it's been working great! Fits without issues. Minor adjustments to tubing to make it work, but overall I'm very happy with it. It's got a bunch of different settings but I keep mine on constant mode at 100%. I connected mine to a smart plug so I can customize my feeding time. It's not a fancy or name brand piece of equipment, but it has served me well for the past couple months.
 
Female Copperband started to chase the **** out of the male to the point where it would stay at the top right corner near the overflow. Male stopped eating for 2 days.

I WAS STRESSED TO SAY THE LEAST AND WAS PLANNING TO BREAK THE PAIR

Fighting calmed down and they have been playing nice the last 4-5 days… Just wanted to share the update

Livestock update:
- WC Percula Pair slowly becoming more aggressive... Which is a good thing?
- Copperband Pair still bicker but can't complain. They are spoiled
- Cleaner Wrasse is always on the hunt for any amphipod on the run
- Gold Neon Goby cleans all the fish :)

Dying to get my hands on some dragonets again. Problem is I want Ruby Red, Spotted, and Psychedelic in a 50 gal...
If you know me, I like to get everything in pairs but 3 pairs of pod eaters might be way too much to handle. 1 Male Spotted, 1 Male Ruby Red, 1 Female Psychedelic might be the move. Feedback?

Ruby reds and psychedelics look wicked. Spotted are a unique pattern.

I've been thinking about it for myself, but I have a 20 gallon (30x12x12) and I'm not sure if I'm willing to hatch brine and buy pods lol

I think most people would consider 50g barely big enough for a single mandarin. I have one in a 225g and never see pods - he keeps the entire population down, along with some help from my CBB. And you got two of those too..!

Three of them in a 50g sounds like you’re planning to buy or culture pods? I don’t see any other way.

Their appetite for pods cannot be overstated. It’s shocking.

Kept a spawning pair of psychedelics in a 14gal for almost 2 years so I’m use to the routine :)

I always enjoy keeping the fish people tell me *Not to keep, or expert only* maybe it comes from me being rebellious LOL

Conclusion of Copperband Butterfly Pairing Project​

I want to formally announce that the Copperband Butterfly pairing project has come to an end. Initially, the pair seemed to adapt well and exhibited harmonious behavior. However, issues began to arise.

Initial Phase:

  • For the first few weeks, the Copperband pair interacted positively. The initial signs were promising, suggesting they could form a stable pair.
Emergence of Issues:

  • Aggression: The female Copperband began to exhibit aggressive behavior towards the male, including constant chasing and fin nipping. This aggression escalated to the point where the male stopped eating.
  • Temporary Separation: To address the aggression, the female was placed in a separate box for a week. This was intended to calm the situation and restore peace between the pair.
Reintroduction and Further Problems:

  • Reintroduction: After a week, the female was reintroduced to the male. Although they coexisted peacefully for an additional two weeks, the aggression resumed.
  • Intensified Conflict: The male’s aggression towards the female intensified, culminating in physical confrontations and frequent collisions with the tank glass.
Decision to Terminate the Project:

  • Tank Size Issues: The tank proved to be too small to accommodate both Copperbands comfortably. The limited space likely contributed to the ongoing aggression.
  • Health and Safety: Given the escalating aggression and the risk of injury, it was clear that continuing with the pairing could compromise the health of both fish. Therefore, the decision was made to end the project.
Reflection and Lessons Learned:

  • Challenges of Pairing: Pairing Copperband Butterfly fish proved to be quite challenging, especially in a smaller tank. This project highlighted just how tricky it can be to create a peaceful environment for such sensitive species.
  • Future Approach: My top priority will be to provide a healthy and safe environment especially since the delicacy of this specimen.

Final Thoughts: Although this pairing didn’t turn out as hoped, it was a valuable learning experience. I appreciate your support throughout this journey and am excited to apply these insights to future projects, always keeping the health and happiness of the fish as the main focus.

If I had a larger tank, maybe that might have helped... Which means Upgrade Time :) JK I'M BROKE. Although that ELOS does look pretty niceeeee @SupraSaltyReefer

Life has been kicking my butt and lost some love for the hobby recently. Instead of shutting it down, I plan to pivot and come back better than ever however sacrifices must be made..

LPS/SPS will be moved to accommodate. If interested reach out! Looking to get them into great homes and hopefully share the love in the club. Since these are not my own corals, they will have rehoming fees.
