Cycle Begins: 04/12/2023

Finally got it wet! Water and rock taken from my dad’s 150G, grabbed a bag of media from his tank and tossed it display. Still need to rescape using more rock when I have the time.

The plan is to cook for the first month as is, hopefully build up some bacteria to dump in a bottle of pods by month 2, lastly begin transferring livestock hopefully by 3 months.

Excited to try out the new lights! Orphek Mounting Arm Kit coming in about a week

If you took everything from an established tank what are you hoping will happen over the next month or two?

-Reduce + Minimize Algae Bloom (especially with no light)
-Give bacteria time to settle and mature slightly amongst some of the new sand + rock added
-Allow time for pods to set up a population before being decimated
-Learn how to get the skimmer tuned in
-Redo Rock scape

I see. If you’re adding dry rock then it makes sense to me. I didn’t read it carefully enough this morning I guess.
I wouldn’t bother with a skimmer until there’s fish in there personally tho

Stocklist?
Existing + Potential Ideas:
- (1) Saltwater Converted balloon Molly
- (1) Gold Neon goby

- (1) Peppermint Shrimp
- (1) Tiger Tail Cucumber

CHANGE OF PLANS!
UPDATE: MIGHT JUST USE WHAT I HAVE FOR SCAPE AND FINISH EXISTING PROJECTS BEFORE INTRODUCING ANOTHER ONE LOL

I want to aqua scape with Australian Live Rock! Then use existing Marshall Island // Fiji // Tonga Rock as bases.

Looking to order from:
- Pristine Marine Aquariums 10-20lbs
- Unique Corals 10-20lbs (Waiting for restock)

*Always looking for live rock, old Tonga branches, Fiji / Marshall island rock* Please pm me if you are looking to move move stock.

Oh shoot I think I got it confused with a video from Unique with everything in water, but that must have been their holding tanks.

The KP aquatics live rock I've seen looks great too and extremely full of life with better shapes than most of the Tampa rock examples.

If you want some true water shipped live rock, you can get corals from Australia and ones that have large amounts of side rock attached e.g. encrusting corals soft corals, or Christmas tree worm rocks then just quarantine and observe without dipping at all. I noticed a couple cool chitons that hitched along on mine.

Anyone ever place an order w/ REEFCLEANERS?

Gotta get my tank right with the matching Orphek Lens

I've bought things from them. I've had good experience with low mortality, fast shipping, and good customer support. I've also had an isolation tank get ich immediately after adding inverts (snails, shrimp) from them. Their things are not quarantined nor kept fishless; treat it as you would other things from random LFSes.

Those lenses are great! My wife got me some for christmas and it makes taking pics a lot easier.

I have. I have had very low mortality rate with reef cleaners as well. I always ship overnight though. Never have seen ich or anything else notable from them after adding CUC to tanks.

They do claim their tanks are free of fish diseases. Not sure I trust anyone’s QT though. :)

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice! Definitely QT is needed at this point

My understanding is they keep their system fishless, but they are wild caught and not through a full and proper QT. I don't want to say that my N=1 "added stuff from reef cleaners, right after got ich" situation was for sure them, nor that his business is bad (I'd still buy from him), but I would personally not trust putting stuff directly in my display from most anywhere.

I also am 100% confident they have vermitids, because I've had snails arrive with them visible. If you are going to try and avoid those, make sure you give the shells a once over.
