Huh. Blind spot of mine; I didn't realize 18s DNA-seq was sufficient for species level differentiation. I'll have to do some digging on my own, but if you've got some papers for this I'd love to look into it, since that could change the ballgame significantly.
 
It was so cool having the coral ID book out at the dive shop in Rangiroa and Bora Bora. The pictures are great and make the ID in the field go really smoothly. I think I got some weird looks when I started rattling off the genus's of everything we saw, but totally worth it. Every dive master that saw the book wanted to spend time studying it.
