It’s been about 8 months since I added the Bangai fry now turned adults to the main display. There was one runt who got picked early on. Had to take him out. Put him back in a month later and everything was cool. Lost one of the other runts early. So out of two original females and 8 fry there are 9 left. I have not seen any real aggression. They all tend to form loose shoals. Occasionally the older females will move away from the group. No aggression during feedings.
I think it helps to have some other bigger active fish in the tank. It probably provides just enough fear to make them band together for protection. But the other fish leave them alone They all stay on the left side of the display. Don’t know why. I was kind of hoping they would adopt an anemone and hang out there.
I would hazard to say that to keep more than a few bangai’s together without having them kill each other off you would need at least 6-8 fish, a large display, and maybe some other fish around to keep them honest. It is an N=1. So take it for what it’s worth. Just sharing what I have experienced.
