Strip lighting -what are people using?

As the post said - I may introduce a strip light to augment some shady spots.

I have two Red Sea 90’s in place but need something I can control by apex.

Thinking the AI 30 inch but that isn’t cheap-
$400 plus I need the module to plug it in.

Any other suggestions? Orpheak?

Also I saw on IG -but there is someone who can create 3d generated custom mounts.

TIA

But I am not sure if they have the size you are looking for. They come with their own dimmer so you only need to turn it on and off, unless you are looking for ramping up and down.

Will check it out. I prefer a ramp up/down though.

I am not very familiar with APEX but it seems to be able to connect with a 0-10V connector. If that is true, and APEX has a setting to create a ramp up and down schedule, you can do this with these lights too (works with Hydros).

On a related note, if these are not your main lights, I would not think you need a ramp up and down schedule but rather turn them on during the core hours.

If it has a 0-10v connector -then you can create profiles to ramp up/down the light with some caveats…

Even not the main source of lights -still want that ramp up/down as the areas that need it are pretty shaded..

The build quality of the Quanta Helix bars is very good, and they come with an excellent power supply. Not a big fan of the white spectrum light (just sold mine) but the meso blues ones are pretty great, I have 2x 71" over my tank.

No need to fuss with ramping on supplemental lighting IMO - it's just another app to worry about. Just turn them on during your photoperiod, it's not like they are going to overcook anything outside the peak hours.

I was looking at them. My only real concern is that they post at the top of their website that they need ventilation. Since my tank is pretty much enclosed in a cabinet -gives me pause on these specific ones.

Which lights are best for an enclosure? I figure lights with fans are just recycling the enclosed heat so it may be the same as passive cooling options. (really I have no clue though)

I supplement with the quanta meso blues as well but open air. On a mechanical timer.

Any strip light that uses heatsinks instead of fans (which I think is basically all of them? not sure about the AI blade - do they have fans?) is going to have a similar disclaimer concern. The heat has to go somewhere, regardless of the light. They all produce heat!

Valid point - I have the Red Sea -they have been ok for 3 yrs so far… I’ll keep researching them
