Sulfamic acid to clean pumps?

I noticed using the optional top shade/flow plastic things on the Maxspect gyres keeps the pump part largely shaded and allows it to go longer between cleanings.
I assume you are referring to the flow directors? These do not seem to help for two of the four gyres I am using them with (12 weeks cleaning cycle).

I think this post was a bit misunderstood or drifted in a different direction.

The bottom line message is that using specifically vinegar but also citric or muratic acid as often recommended is not a great idea for pumps, various types of plastic, but also rubber-based materials such as o-rings etc if longevity of the product is your key concern.

I have already stopped using this now and will not recommend to others going forward.

Yep looks like that’s their name for them. They help a lot for me for making maintenance easier (not for directing flow). I let them accumulate corraline to ward off algae from the surface.
