Tank getting delivered Monday, what should I do?

My Red Sea Reefer 500 arrives Monday. Technically it's curbside delivery. I'm curious about a couple things.

First up, how should I approach getting them to deliver into my garage? Do I just offer that guy $50/$100 to get it in there or something? I have a paver driveway, but I think it should be fine having a lift go on it. I really don't want the tank on the driveway because I don't know when I can get it in.

Second, what should I be checking or doing when it gets here? I'm not sure if I should expect it'll be in a wooden box versus just on a pallet versus wrapped. Anyone know what to expect from Red Sea? How much should I take things apart before signing for the delivery? I don't want to be the guy keeping the delivery people there for an awkward amount of time.

When my IM tank was delivered the guy wheeled it into my garage, no problem. I think "curbside" just means they just won't carry it into your house.

When I talked to IM about what to inspect. They basically said open the crate and make sure there isn't obvious damage. They told me pretty much the tank gets destroyed, or it's fine.

I’ve had 2 reefers delivered “curbside”. The freight guy had a lift thing both times and wheeled it into the garage no problem (parked on the street).

the guy resisted a tip but I insisted.

Tldr; it shouldn’t be a problem at all. They’re generally really cool

Before your set it all up check all the panels for the stand. One of mine had a small chip on the finish. Not a big deal. A sharpie fixed that. But I didn’t notice it till I had it all set up. Got lazy and didn’t want to wait for a replacement. No one has ever seen it. But I know it’s their and it bugs me.

Ok so I should ask them to drop it in the garage, and sounds like there's a good chance to do so. Also sounds like a $20 tip might be all, and $50 would be a mega tip.

From reading online it sounds like I have a couple days after delivery to look things over and report any damage. If that's true I would just look for anything egregious while they're there, such as the externally visible stuff being busted, but I don't need to make them wait for my to break everything open and check.

Does that sound correct? @under_water_ninja do you know if that info about having a couple days is accurate?

If there is any external damage note it on the bill of lading.

I am not completely sure, this is the first tank I ordered through them lol, but I will email my rep Monday morning and ask.

My ELOS tank I just got came in a wooden box that took hours to open. So there's a chance your delivery person won't be able to wait. I have no idea how big Reefers get delivered.

My Reefer 170 came in a very sturdy engineered wood box, and I didn't notice a crack in the overflow glass until I opened it all up and *almost* finished setting it up. Red Sea shipped me a new one even though I reported this a few days after delivery. I think if you don't notice any issues right away, you'll still be taken care of if you can get things inspected fairly quickly.

And like everyone else said, ask the delivery person to just wheel it into your garage. Just be really nice about it and make sure it's really easy to get in there.
