Well the time has come for an upgrade. These nems grow up so fast haha. The tanks been packed for a while and it’s beginning to be way too much in way too little of a tank so I’ve been on the hunt for an upgrade under 150 gallons. The filtration in this tank is all rated for 150 gallons since I knew I would be upgrading eventually and figured I’d run with it until I found a suitable purchase.
Big thanks to
@NanoCrazed for hooking it up with his 150!!!
So far I’ve begun building the stand and since this will be a straight upgrade of sorts the transfer shouldn’t take forever.
The stand is 1 foot wider on each side for those incidentals we always have laying about. Build out of 2x4 with a 2x6 top. Pretty basic design with only a mild skin as it’s a garage tank and lumber/trim prices right now are insane.
The waterbox 20 cube will also be broken down into this 150 build to help narrow my reefing vision.
I have 90lbs of macro rock on the way to add to the 50 lbs in the breeder and 10 lbs on the waterbox bringing the total rock to 150 lbs which is plenty to work with. My plan is to make new structures and keep them separated and add pieces of the anemone rocks scattered through the tank to help split them up.
Sand wise there 40lbs in the breeder of a coarse aragonite that I will be mixing with 60lbs of carib sea special grade(20lbs is in the Waterbox so only 40 lbs of new sand will be added. 100 lbs of sand should give me 1.5-2” of a sandbed which is my ideal level.
Purchesed an extra 800 watt heater to add to the 2x 300 watts currently warming the 40 breeder. 1 will stay in the sump and the other 2 will be in the display. Hoping this keeps things even as I’ve never heated such a large tank before.
The lighting will be 4x Kessil a360x that I’m hoping do a decent job over the tank and don’t shadow too much due to the dual braces. I can always angle them and get creative with positioning if it ends up looking terrible.
Still working on the flow but I have some wavemakers laying around to get things moving until I make a decision.
Tomorrow I’ll be sanding the stand and putting some paint on it and the back of the tank. Once it’s dry I can start planning the move.
