The_Lazy_Reefers 108 gallon sps dominant mixed reef

Just added 1 new prime 16hd to the 3 prime HD’s and it’s hard to tell in photos but the color blending on the new ones is much better

Well been a while since anything major. But I trimmed up some euphyllia that was far too overgrown and decided to tackle a rock replacement yesterday. Snagged a new piece of carib sea arch to replace my sps arch that has become covered with aiptasia. My nudis and copperband are definitely making a dent but this problem needed fixing ASAP so I ripped it out and replaced it with a brand new piece. Trimmed up the sps and remounted them in place with some extra room to grow out. Hoping they don’t mind being on fresh rock but it has to be better than being stung by aiptasia imo.

Well it’s definitely a day worthy of an update and since I’ve been slacking on my journal I figured why not lol.

Swapped out my primes for a kessil AP9x and I’m so thrilled to not have 4 fixtures and freed up some much needed power space. This single mount also allowed me to put the fans on the back for a much cleaner look imo.

I’ll be matching par readings and setting a little acclimation for a week or so to hopefully help the corals adjust to the new lighting.

Looks good. I was wonder if you would use 1 or 2 of the new lights. That’s some nice spread from the one though

I figured I would need 2 or at least a 360x on either side but the par works out perfect. If I maxed it out it’s like 450+ par center that drops off to 150 on the sides so that’s more than enough. Currently running 70% and 250-300 par center and 100-125 on the sides

Oh man have I been lazy on my tank journals so I’m going to do my best at a thorough but brief catch up on all my systems staring here first.

The system has had a few upgrades and many changes over the pandemic(so much free time) The ai primes we’re swapped out for a kessil AP9x, I ran this alone for a while and my nems we’re loving it. The edges were a bit shadowed but nothing the nems couldn’t handle.

Then the nems did their splitting event again and I lost so many sps that I decided that the time has come to remove them. I setup the 40 breeder in the garage and cycled some rock for the big move. After a long day I managed to get every nem besides 2 out. Redid the scape and made sure to leave plenty of room for sps and a new torch garden. So happy to finally have the nems in their own place and be able to focus on sps corals in the display while my other 2 systems just have nems so that’s a breeze for maintaining.

Once I knew sps were on the agenda I added 2 more A360x on either side of the AP9x and my tank is now a shining beacon of full coverage. Really stoked on the changes made to have a much more controllable tank.

With all those lights you could do the sunset timing like melevs reef, have them turn on from right to left and then off from right to left, staggered about 5 min to have a moving sun look. it might be annoying to setup and kinda gimmicky but with the angled 360Xs it made me think of it.

That would be super cool actually. I’m definitely going to look into it and if it’s not a pita I may give it a whirl

Not much to add just updating the journal.

Got the club bandsaw today and went to work on the euphyllia mountain. I loved the full look but some heads were being smothered and I lost a few so I decided to cut them down and rearrange everything with more space in between. Took a few hours a few beers and a few bowls but all went well. Waiting for the dust to settle and see how it went.
