TheRealMadMax Monster Tank Build

Got the dosing DOS system all setup with Robert’s help. Will give me peace of mind when traveling. Also hoping some of the NPS I’ve been struggling with will be happier.

Concerning dosing Oyster-Feat... I have a tip. The larger the surface area of the container, the more the media will stick to the surface. Over time, that will turn into "snot wads" that can block your doser input line. I would suggest only buying what you'll dose in a month. The same is true with Roti-Feast, Tigger-Feast, Beta-Brine, Mysis-Feast and Arcti-Pods.

That’s a good tip. Currently if filled to the top that is about one month of dosing. I was considering adding small magnetic stir bars that would mix everything on a schedule. One more thing to break and having magnets enclosed in plastic submerged in liquids over time could cause a problem.

I wouldn't worry about stir bars degrading like that. You benefit from mixing those. If you are worried, make a yearly plan to replace the stir bar. They tend to be stronger then most impellers, and have far less material in them than any pump that would be in your tank.

Oh Robert is still very much involved. Increasing the water volume so much definitely destabilized the system. We had to do a bunch of water changes which dropped the nutrients too much and I lost almost all the LPS in both tanks. Things are stabilized again … just in time for the next CFM ;) The SPS has been doing amazing! I’ll take some pics this weekend. My CSB was so happy it split into three! Only addition after the dosing fridge was the addition of a Trident NP. Other than that everything has been working great!

Thanks for the updates! Ouch on your LPS ugg
Sorry if this is a dum question but Interesting note you mentioned, "Increasing the water volume definitely destabilized the system". Care to elaborate on that thought since normally the more water volume stabilizes systems better unless a box of salt was off parameters or dosing malfunction? I'm going to be plumbing a new tank into a 200g so will be increasing water volume thus the question..
Any bio bricks in the sump for added stabilization?
Congrats on the triplets!!

Congrats on the triplets!!
We pre-cooked all the rock work, but the sand and all the plumbing was new. Usually takes about six to twelve months for any residual trace chemicals to leach out. I went through something similar with the first 180. The first year took a bunch of tuning until the system stabilized. One surprise piece that we hadn't realized, the sump system was sized for both systems which meant it was oversized for just the 180. To compensate we had to be feeding a lot more food since the sump was pulling out so much. Once the big tank was pulled online we had way too much food going into the system so we got some bad nitrate and phosphate blooms. Cutting back the feeding and then having to do a bunch of water changes brought the nutrients too low.
