Cali Kid Corals

Thinking of getting a CaRX...

Not really. If you just have a 2 head doser, all you get is Alk n Ca. If you add all the trace that comes with what the CaRx adds you will need more heads. A good doser is easily 1/2 of what a CaRx will cost.

CaRx media is also very cheap.

Add to that the time spent mixing and adding and watching for when you run out and having to mix more etc.

I haven't had to touch my CaRx to add anything in over a year. And it's barely dropped 2" in media. 20lb CO2 bottle is still pretty much full. 800psi.

It's literally the epitome of set it and forget it.

Oxo containers if you don't want to leave the house:

If you want to hit up the container store for some savings (pay in advance, drive to Santana Row and park in the pickup area for a quicker in/out experience):

I just modded the lid on the OXO for use as dosing containers and had a spare one around so used that in the interim.

Very true on cost comparison.
A good set of 3 dosers = $400, and that assumes you already have a controller.
What I meant was more "upgrade cost" since I interpreted the thread that way.

Ohhhhh right. Is it still a thing to have the extra canister with media in it to help do that, or does everybody use kalk?

Second chmber reactors or add-on chambers are supposed to help with the acidic effluent I believe, sort of help with the pH issue of single chamber reactors. Guess is one of those things of decisions, decisions, decisions...

My tank is consuming a lot of Ca and Alk lately, especially after tossing in a couple of small deresa clams, and I'm thinking of going from dosing 2 part and kalk, to a Ca reactor. But they look tricky, especially because of the need for a continuous duty peristaltic pump which seems big and expensive. Does anyone have experience with this model which doesn't use one?: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/skimz-monzter-cm93-duo-internal-calcium-reactor.html?

If these suck, and I do have to find a decent peri pump, I still need something I can fit in my sump that has a pretty small footprint. I would love any recommendations you all may have, based on experience, for a reactor rated for a ~100 gal tank.

Thanks!

If you want to try a CaRx, I have a small footprint KnopC, well actually the whole set-up sans peristaltic but I do have an aqualifter that should do the trick; lmk if you want to give the reactor a try and see if it's right for you

How many mL are you dosing at the moment? I have about 30 sps frags and 2 larger sps colonies in my 120g and 40g plumbed together. Dosing about 48 mL Alk and 36 mL Ca daily

Was asking the OP, just wondering what a lot of consumption in his sense was.

I'm using BRS stuff. Just used to it for 6 years and never thought of the DIY stuff or changing to something else since it works for fine for me. If I switch to anything, it would be CaRX. I already paid a lot for my Vertex doser, so I wanna run that to the end or until I'm dosing a gallon per day lol

Here's a recent thread with good info: Wondering if you should run a CaRx!?!
