I'm considering something like this for my 55g tank, which doesn't have a sump, so it has to be external. The reviews all say that the Chaeto stops spinning after a while and the price seems very high. Anyone have any experience with them?

I think Pax Bellium has a patented design to hold chaeto and have an internal light. IMO I would go with them, or do a DIY with a media reactor and strip LED lights

I settled on an HOB refugium - It ends up being the simplest solution for me and will let me grow 3 gallons of Chaeto. I can use the existing canister filter output to run it, which means one less thing in the tank.
