Tunze wave box? Yes or No

I’ve been contemplating getting one for the 220. I want to add more water movement, but don’t want more power heads in the tank. Currently have two Neptune waves and two flared return nozzles.

Anyone currently using one?
Pros and cons?
Is there something else I should look into?

Thx!

It’s not silent and I would not call it quiet either. It’s the loudest piece of equipment I have. It’s big. 2 big blue trim magnets to hold it on one of my side viewing panels.

I love it. I chose to block one of my tank returns to place it where I wanted in the back corner. Water pulses in places that would otherwise probably be dead’s spots (between rocks where wave makers are not hitting). My tank is not very long so I don’t get quite the standing wave a longer tank would get. My wave rotates clockwise with some help from other wave makers. Tunze says “averages 10 watts”. I’m not sure what exactly that means but it seems like a very low number.

Did I mention they aren’t quiet…

Any chance you could do a video?

Eh. I don’t know how to post a video. As I don’t have a YouTube account
It should be easy if you have a google account. Sign into youtube with your google account, click your pfp in the top right corner, and create a channel

There are other options available as well to share video

I hope google photos will allow videos to be posted on this forum as well

in my peninsula we needed a bit more flow so Robert installed this pretty slick small wave maker. Really quite and not too obtrusive looking.

Why would a wave box be harder on an aquarium than a power head making waves?
I've heard the same. It's the difference between water swirling around the aquarium versus a large mass of water moving to one side crashing against the wall then alternating to the other. Carry a bucket of water. If u stir or mix it there's not a lot of force against the bucket. If you move the bucket side to side even slightly to create an alternating wave, there's significantly more lateral force against the bucket.

I feel like they do a better job of dislodging detritus than a pulsing wave pump with a jabo or MP. I may just be the few people I have seen using them are just experts at designing their aquarium flow. If you can afford the aquarium space, go for it.
