What we've been up to

A few of you guys have seen us working on this for the past week, and we wanted to share the final product with you guys. We designed, built, and installed it for a hotel in downtown SF this week. It's an aquaponics system that they're going to use to grow veggies/herbs and fish for their restaurant. What do yall think?

So are you using the fish water as fertilizer for the herbs, and thus the herbs as filtration for the fish tank?
Either way, pretty cool.

Hmmm.
I should replace my algae scrubber. Maybe I can get the wife to do maintenance.

Neato system, hope they have better luck than I did. I tried some aquaponics in my greenhouse. Used goldfish in a 100g acrylic tank I had sitting around, then had a 10g flat I filled with "pond pebbles" as my media. Had some mixed results. Lettuce would grow constantly, but the outer leaves kept dying off, had a tomato barely do much growing, but then when I removed it I found it had this ultra massive root system so it liked something. Also found little grey bugs started a colony in the pebbles, they didn't like the water because when I flooded it to try and rinse things out they definitely went to high ground. Also noticed it did gunk up quite a bit at the bottom.

Might try it again someday if I get inspired.
