Cali Kid Corals

What's your typical montly reefing budget (not including electric bill!)

anywhere from $50 a month to $100..food, livestock, dry goods..if I buy equipment (bulbs, etc...) it goes up. Most of my stuff I buy used if I see great deals...even if I don't need it. : (

Somebody help me...I have a problem. ( but its not as bad as Ian's addiction)

I know! :D
We will shout out into the tanks " We don't want you, your bad for us"! :D
ahh...I get it. We will stare temptation in the face and use all our will power to reject our greatest addiction...

Does anyone make an anti-reefing patch? ;D

BTW, I think all of you are underestimating your true budgets... If I'm honest with myself...I think I spend between 100-200+ per month, and I consider myself cheap! You know, all those little incidentals add up...Frozen foods, dry foods, salt, meds for flatworm or Ich, cleaner magnet or sock, carbon, phosban, polyfilters, additives (Calcium, iodine, vitamins, amino acids co2, etc. ) test kits, lots of light bulbs, nori or gracillaria for the tangs, upgraded equipment (this is a biggie), frag plugs and disks, glue and epoxy, plastic tubs, paper towels, etc, etc. ;D

See I keep calling it education fund. Since I do not know that much about the topic just yet, it is expensive per month still. Once I am an old salt, I am sure the education costs will go down.

V, how could the kids ever in the future not be proud you continued to educate yourself all your life.

I am looking for a different light fixture, and a magnesium test kit, and cyclopease. My guess is in the $200 range still too.

Same here..I rather not think about it. :D

I'm scared to calculate what I spend every month.

I am in the same boat ... :)

I'm with mpoletti,
She spends money on clothes and purses, I spend money on things that live in a box of water...
She has kindly labeled my funds as "reef geek funding" lol

Usually around 50 bucks a month not including lighting bills..

I can not post this information due to the fact that my wife may one day want to join BAR :)
Mine trolls the board every once and a while.

I get all of my corals, including equipment etc for free. I never spend a dime.

Bryan, want to give me your free lobo? :p

Mine wife doesn't care too much what I spend as long as I can pay the bills and clean up my reef stuff which I let spread like the plague through the house.

I like that it's an educatin fund. :) Perhaps mine is a "sanity" fund!?

BTW, new research proves that if you keep learning, your brain continues to make new pathways and helps prevent senility. I need to learn more... ;D

My reef takes money and time..money and time that I would just be diverting if I wasnt spending it here. No regrets. At least I have something to show for it!

My tank is new this year. The cost of equipment and livestock averaged this year are off the charts.
But I want to try and keep it around $150 a month from now on.
Food,Salt,Test kits, lighting,RO/DI,garlic,paper towels,a better skimmer, some more corals, a larger Qt tank,
another full set up just in case, a PO4 meter, salinity meter... ::)
well... maybe a few more dollars is realistic.
I'm actually not good at math.

Maybe $10 per month. Food only. Utilities are covered in rent and my tank (the magazine's tank actually) is sponsored by Seachem so salt and dechlor is covered. If I average out the skimmer I bought last year, it might be $15 per month.

Dunno exactly what I spend, even with such a small tank.

The only real expenses are from Ian's influences.

..."dude, you NEED that!"
..."they have this sweet deepwater, you want a piece of this."

Having a small tank helps with keeping the expenses down. I'm staying away from having a tank like Wayland's. :p
