Log
July 2018
- Received XXL 750
- Assembled stand and built floating canopy
- Moved tank into places with help from uncle and cousins
- Started cycle
- Replaced red sea butterfly valve with spears gate valve due to water level inconsistency and surging noises
- Started getting tissue necrosis on my stony corals and several corals were lost. Fragments of some of them were saved and have recovered. I presume the cause may have been phosphate bottoming out or a bacterial infection.
- Identified brown slime growing in tank since startup as probably chrysophytes. Identification was made with a microscope and other reefer images.
- Added Aqua UV 57W to hopefully help eradicate chrysophytes. Has not noticeably affected chrysophytes, which keep growing back.
- Added second Kessil AP700 under canopy, replacing two A360s on ends.
- Started weekly dosage of vibrant to help eradicate chrysophytes
- Shut down refugium to see if there's any effect on coral growth
- Started using carbon again (1/2 cup ROX per month)
- Put refugium back online 5/9 to control phosphate and algae
February 2020
- Built stand for 40 gallon quarantine tank (QT) with Mike B and his brother
- Added Gyre XF-130 and Kessil A360WE to QT
- Connected old Apex JR to QT
- Installed DOS to automatically add 40 gallons of water from Anemone Tank to QT every month. Excess water volume drains to 10 gallon tank underneath QT. Fresh saltwater is automatically added from the saltwater storage container via the second DOS head. Anemone tank has 1 fish to provide nutrients for coral.
- Added ALK dosing to QT. Auto water change was not keeping up with usage.
- Added Mike's frags to QT
- Added Reefbrite LED strip to Anemone Tank
- Added Mike's anemones to Anemone Tank
- Drilled "Low Boy" Frag Tank for Large Eshopps Eclipse External Overflow Box
- Built stand for Frag Tank
- Hung AP700 from ceiling over Frag Tank using string and pulleys
- Bought 40 gallon breeder to use as Frag Tank + Anemone Tank Sump
- Plumbed return pump to Frag Tank + Anemone Tank with 1.5" double wye fitting off return pump (reduced to 1" at wye outputs). Extra return line available for another frag tank.
- Frag Tank + Anemone Tank overflow drains plumbed to sump under Frag Tank.
- Connected Apex to Frag Tank. Added another temp probe for Frag Tank.
- Added Nero 5 for flow in Frag Tank
- Moved initial frags from QT to Frag Tank
- Moved ALK doser from QT to Frag Tank
- Added to QT from JVU: blue/purple photosynthetic sponge, chong bong zoas, fairy dust zoas, green birdsnest, pink birdsnest, purple monster zoas
- Added large piece of red monti cap to QT
- Added Favia of the Gods and Pink Chalice from @tankguy to QT
