Nano.Reefer 24G Journey

Hello new here to the club, thanks for having me.

I currently have a 24 galling Aquatop Recife mixed reef. I’m currently 4 months in and going into month 5 on the 17th of this month. I’ve changed my tank 3 times in the past 4 months lol ‍♂️. I got back into the hobby after 10 years telling myself I wanted to start small and bought a 5 gallon fluval to start. I kept searching online and kept finding great deals on bigger tanks!

now I’m pretty satisfied with My tank an let all the corals and fish really settle in. So far in my tank I have only one fish die from ich while everyone else survived (I’m starting my quarantine tank this week). Coral wise I have not lost anything. I started off with easier soft corals then moved to LPS, and in the last few weeks moved to SPS. So far everything seems very happy and I’m getting slow growth on all my corals. I went through some issues with dinoflagellates recently so I dosed some vibrant into the tank. It’s starting to clear up on the sand bed, but I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

currently I only have I have a pair of clownfish, a royal gramma, a mandarin goby, 6 line wrasse, cleaner shrimp, and a CUC mix. I’ll post photos of my tank, but if anyone has any suggestions please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you, happy reefing!

So a little update to my tank: last weekend at the coral frag swap was great, got to meet a bunch of local reefers and also got a bunch of corals to add to the tank(thanks to everyone, sorry I can’t remember who’s corals we’re who’s). It’s feeling pretty full at the moment but can’t wait for things to grow into the scape.

I also acquired a baby RBTA from @sassyindian which is a new challenge for me because of its possibility of movement. But if anyone has great tips on growing it and keeping it in place would be greatly welcomed.

Lastly I created a few things to help with my dosing and filtration. For nutrient filtration I created a mini fudge chamber to grow out my chaeto in chamber one in my all in one tank. For my dosing I created the Voss glass bottles to store my 2 part and magnesium. So far everything’s been working well and parameters have been stable.

water parameters:
temp-78
Salinity- 1.025
Ph-8.1
Alk-8.5
Calcium-480
Mag-1440
Phos-.03
Nitrate-.01

Hey guys I’m starting to develop a fuzzy white/clear looking algae on some of my rocks. Does anyone might know what this could be? Possible bacteria growing?

Hard to see but it’s the translucent stuff in the rocks, almost moves like hair algae.

just a little update on my tank!

so far tank has been pretty stable the last month l, having my dosing system set up and fine tuned. I have recently added a few Sps to the tank to test the waters on how I do with them.

A few issues that I’ve had in the tank recently is more algae algae growth and that fuzzy white stuff that was on my rocks a few weeks ago. I’ve lower my white lights to 8% and dosed some nitrifying bacteria that has helped with those issues a bit. But since those blooms I have noticed some of my corals sucked in and receding a bit.ill give it some time to bounce back before I try moving it again.

Parameters:
Salinity-1.025
Alk-8.9
Calcium-500
Magnesium-1500
Nitrate-.1
Phosphate-.09

I know my alk an mag are pretty high but I’ve had it there for a few months now, would you suggest to lower that or keep it stable?

Update on tank: took @Coral reefer advice an started feeding more and got my nitrates up a bit and corals are looking more colorful and happy.

I have now collected a bunch of Sps frags from DBTC and also some I’ve purchased on my own. So far they have grown some and have colored up in the past few weeks. I just got done with the clubs par meter an measured all my tanks areas and have all my Sps in 200-350 range and all my other corals around 120-160.

Alk-9.3
Calcium-370( worming it back up)
Mag-1350
Sal-1.025
Nitrate-.03
Phos-.07
Oh-8.1
