$30 DIY Secondary Chamber - Calcium Reactor & Results

Im in the same boat, every basis point on the ph is a win. Do you already have a calcium reactor? If you are not running one now, my guess is you will see an overall decrease. The secondary chamber softens and or mostly eliminates the PH decrease from a reactor, but still net negative. Unless...

$30 DIY Secondary Chamber - Calcium Reactor & Results

Yes! Overall very marginal increase to maintenance if any. Its plumbed in line with the existing reactor, and with a small sediment filter on the front the reactors stay pretty clean. Just need a top up on media every 6 months or so.

$30 DIY Secondary Chamber - Calcium Reactor & Results

Hi Guys, Getting back into the swing of things after hibernating, but still maintaining the 150Gal reef tank for the last two years. I've always been curious to see the impact of a secondary chamber in a calcium reactor, but dubious it would move the needle enough for $100+ Decided to give...

These swing check valves are installed after each pump to stop backflow when 1 pump is disabled. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/spears-true-union-check-valve.html

The WYE is a good idea, and relatively easy to implement so I will probably make the switch before I finalize the tank. I've always been a fan of the dual return for redundancy and flexibility, especially when paired with an apex. At the minimum,I do have the ability to only run a single pump...

The standard is a carbon steel frame wrapped with some trim boards for cosmetics. Yeah, in hindsight I should have stepped pipe up to a 1inch where they meet to reduce that risk. Hopefully, it will work as intended as is :). If not, what would you think of the individual pump pipes being...

    Brian's 180G Peninsula

I've been some progress getting the details dialed in. Spent a couple of half-days getting the plumbing cut and cemented in place. (Always my favorite part of the build) anyway, the plumbing for the tank is mostly complete! I ended up implementing some non-kosher practices when it came to my...

Oregon Reefer here moved back to the bay.

The driving factor was space. This tank was already 24inches wide and I didn't want to add 2-3inches more to have room for the overflow/plumbing hanging on the back. I think it is low-risk if you can verify the glass isn't tempered.

Hopefully, I have enough room. Time will tell! The tank/stand is made by crystal dynamics. 4 Drilled holes in the glass, 3x1" 1x3/4" Bought it used from 360CoralZ in San Jose.

Current status The skimmers actual dimensions actually ended up slightly larger than what it had on BRS, however it still fits so I am going to roll with it. Red is the dimensions listed on the website, which fit nicely into my sump, the blue (the adjustment ard for the flow & the 3d printed...

Adding an "Electrical panel" I decided to fill in one of my door areas to create an "electrical panel" to create an area to put my Apex and all the other electronics.
