I am aware of the concerns with the palythoa and am just treating them like they are undesirable and potentially unsafe. It is a big reason why I am spinning up a different tank as I plan to quarantine and try to kill it off. But as of now I don't have any pressing issues and am enjoying the tank.

Just adding that I think I found a good 3-6 more in the same spot of the tank. Under that little shelf looks like 3-4 under there. That top one almost appears like it has a mouth. Thoughts? Still a sponge? Still ok to leave as a science experiment?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not super harmful or invasive? So I just let it grow and see if everyone is right?

Yes. I think you are correct with your recommendation. All of this can be understood with a couple of different tests. I will probably proceed down that route as it's really easy.
