Ah then now I’m pretty sure that’s just the fluval heater doing wonky stuff. Figured he had the hydros controlling the on/off of the heater.

Make sure that’s set above the temp you want it. Even a little higher. Never used that preset heater but most that I have used are inaccurate +- 1-2 degrees so setting that to 80 may help things as if the hydros wants it on but the fluval thinks it’s fine then that can cause the delay.

I have an extra large colony of ORA green I could part with. Probably a good 6x6. Also have a small mini colony of rainbow. If interested DM and I’ll send pics.

Also does the heater have its own temp control on it?

I have roughly the same setup/ambient temps and can confirm this is weird. My apex keeps the temp within .3 degrees constantly so if the heater you are using is reliable then I would look to the hydros as the possible issue.

Maybe contact AI? They recently updated the mount due to this very issue and maybe they can send you a new one for free? Or at least the part you need anyways. Worth a shot since ecotech now owns them perhaps the customer service ecotech is known for is now part of AI?

Get the narrow angle deflector and raise the light up a few inches and this helps bump the par up to 250-300 but does limit spread so raising it up can help that part out.

Yep I’m running a stand-alone KH Director from GHL to do just that and love it.

I run the even older version on one of my tanks. The tech inside is so simple they last forever basically in my experience. New probes would be something I’d look into but other than that it should be fine. The only thing this unit can’t do is run a Trident but other than that it does everything...
