How Do You Have a Bay Area Safe RODI System, and Fill Up Your ATO Container?

I bought a pump, then tested my water pressure, which was 80psi, so ... turned out to be pointless. TheSassyIndian, consider not using a "saddle valve" if you can. They are OK, but I feel they restrict water flow much more than a proper plumbing valve from HD. But if you're not comfortable with...

So angry right now ... cleaning lady unplugged aquarium pumps (by accident) and my last two fish are dead.

I'm not thinking that ... although it's not a total solution, I might invest in an Apex controller system so that I can know when these things happen, monitor ph, dissolved oxygen, etc, etc. I mean you can't 100% rely on stuff like that, but it would have been nice to get a heads up if things...

So angry right now ... cleaning lady unplugged aquarium pumps (by accident) and my last two fish are dead.

Thanks guys! In my large tank, I placed a propeller pump up near the surface to keep the surface moving and if the return failed it's high enough that it would make some noise as the main tank water level dropped to I could tell. The small tank had no sump and two pumps in it, but the surface...

So angry right now ... cleaning lady unplugged aquarium pumps (by accident) and my last two fish are dead.

I can't express how frustrated and angry I am right now. After my main tank suffered a broken return pump impeller and all my fish died. I had my little QT left that housed two special clownfish that we won at a frag trade. My daughter (the same one who discovered the main tank death) just came...

Members only frag swap 10/11/20 12-3

I'll abide by whatever rules are decided. If she comes I'll be the one staying at the table and she'll only get up to pick a frag while I sit there. Ie; I'll be there only as the chaperone. If the organizers don't feel comfortable with that then no problem (seriously, not a problem!) and I'll...

To keep or not to keep my algae scrubber?

I mean what Rygh wrote about "Nitrification" with bacteria. V

Question .. can I bring my daughter along (following similar safety rules of course)? (She's 12 so she won't be running around free-range). Vince

To keep or not to keep my algae scrubber?

I'd heard the opposite ... that live rock produces as much nitrate as there is nitrate... ie; LR has a lot of capacity and probably houses as much bacteria as can be supported. V

How Do You Have a Bay Area Safe RODI System, and Fill Up Your ATO Container?

Don’t forget that you can drink the water! Mr RO unit sits under my kitchen sink. It’s two sediment filters and a carbon block, the the ro. After the RO it is teed off. One line goes into another smaller carbon filter then a faucet for drinking (the skinny faucet thing? The other line goes from...

Hanna Nitrate low range checker available

Well for me,a few years ago, my nitrate tests showed pure red. So I sent the water to a lab and they showed 220 ppm of nitrates! No small test could show how far off the scale it was. Now I'm reading colors between 25 and 50. Still trying to get them down closer to zero. (They dropped after I...

Hanna Nitrate low range checker available

I see. I found Alk and Ca tests to be pretty straight forward. I use the salifert kits and it's "add drops until the color changes" and it's pretty drastic when it changes. But the ones that are "Which of these shades of red is it?" Drive me nuts. The API Nitrates is horrible because it's...

How Do You Have a Bay Area Safe RODI System, and Fill Up Your ATO Container?

It's funny that we call RO/DI waste water "Waste". When really it is water that has gone through all your prefilters. So although it does contain a higher concentration of whatever your RO membrane is rejecting, it also starts off a lot cleaner than whatever is coming out of your pipes. V

    Skimmer break in?

The salt creep/buildup is from tiny popping bubbles in the foam. Invert a plastic mixing bowl over the skimmer to keep the mess contained.

What SG to Calibrate Refractometers to

You can correct for the idiosyncrasies of your refractometer if you want to do the math, AND you can trust you calibration fluid. Start by calibrating to zero with RO/DI water (or let steam condense on your refractometer in the shower...) Use the calibration fluid, which you trust is exactly...

Hanna Nitrate low range checker available

In general, are the Hanna colorimeter tests worth it? They are quite pricey, but on the other hand, comparing colors can be pretty difficult with other tests. V

Who uses Kalkwasser in their ATO?

mine is a tall tube. Midway down the tube I stuck in some tubing into the mixer. The pump is a MJ 400, cobbled to the pipes with vynil hose, but in a nutshell the input and output of the pump is inside the reactor body with the input at the top and the output at the bottom. Then inside the...

Please recommend a good brand of refractomer

The instructions that came with the refractometer say to calibrate to zero. But in googling around, I'm seeing some recommendations that are the same .. use 35ppt calibration fluid instead .. ? Not sure which is correct. I'm wondering now if it doesn't matter what refractometer I get, they'll...
