    Too much light?

Have 2 350's and 1 360w. the above advice to start at 30% is good. You can then increase the intensity by 5% very 2 weeks, which let the corals accumulate to the light. Once you reach 50% any further increases will depend on the type of coral you want to keep. These lights are pretty powerful...

    Coral help

If in fact your NO3 is 1 and po4 is 0 you will have a hard time showing any growth. Corals need NO3 and po4 for nutrition. I personally would get the NO3 up to 5-10, and po4 up to .03 to .08. There is a big misconception that corals need very low NO3 and po4. There are numerous articles on...

Kessil size for my IM 20?

I would rise you light up higher and increase the intensity. Do this for 3-4 weeks and see if it makes any difference. If not I had a 360 over a 37gal and this provided plenty of light. It appears that you only have to cover about 18in. The increase in the intensity of the light will have little...

    Will's 300g Re-Do

Wlachnit, it's growing cheato very fast. While waiting for the second one,I have been moving some of the cheato to my second sump. It has led lights that lfs sold me a couple of years ago, but they don't do nearing the job the Kessil does. It is costly, especially 2, but from all my readings a...

    Will's 300g Re-Do

Not cheap, but BRS tested a number of different lights to grow cheato and the best by far was the Kessil h380. Will grow algae quickly and has the added benefit of increasing the PH. I have one and just ordered a seconded one. One thing people don't realize is that the refugium light has to...

    Algae dip?

H2O2(hydrogen peroxide) will kill algae. Search the internet for how long to leave the coral in the solution and the ratio of h2o2 to water. I've used it but is has been a long time ago. Dick Flanagan

Try Vibrant. It's helped a lot of refers. It killed my bubble algae and some other kind. Will not hurt any corals or fish. Dosage is 1ml per 10 gals. Dose two times per week until you see the algae dying and then one time per week for 2-3 weeks or until it is completely gone. After that it can...

High phosphate and nitrate but sps seems to be happy

There's also a very good thread on reef2reef on increasing NO3 using Spectracide stump remover. No kinding. Works very well and there's a formula presented. They say it's much cheaper then buying nitrogen products for aquariums. Used as instructed it will increases NO3 slowly and safely. Dick...

High phosphate and nitrate but sps seems to be happy

Large thread on r2r forum debating high and low nitrate and NO4 levels. It appears that higher levels aren't so bad. One problem would be if you were to have an algae out break. While I agree with the above comments I myself would try to lower my NO3 to at least to 25ppm,and NO4 to .10. However...

My Hanna Alk meter drives me nuts. "It ramps up slow".

Unless this checker has been updated I believe the instructions call for gently shaking the vile for 2min. Agree with above that the vile must be keep clean in and out. Dick flanagan

    Dosing hydrogen peroxide

If the reason the algae showed up has been corrected then you don't need the maintenance dose. However, for me it keeps the glass cleaner and the water crystal clear, and the cost is minimal. Dick Flanagan
