I used the vacuum method too. It minimizes kicking crap up into the water column. Over a month or two, it won't shock the system as much either.

These are the only things I can think of that might be the problem and might have a contaminant that is undetectable but the methods you mentioned. If it were my tank, I would do a large water change using the old salt and old source of RO and also use a Poly Filter.

If you come to a BAR meeting, Aquatic collections is about 1 mile away.

When I was there, I would go to Neptune Aquatics and Aquatic Collection. Both have a really good selection of goods. They are in the eastbay side (where I was). If you are in another part of the bay area and don't want to travel that far, I'm sure there are a couple others that people can...

The bay area has SOO much good coral, that unless you are after something very specific, I'd just go local.

Thanks guys. That' did it. While the rod looked file, there was a very hard to see highly localized and hard to see "calcified bur" that snagged only in certain positions.
