Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

I like this idea because the Voss bottles are tall and narrow (and heavy glass so less likely to tip) and if the trident can sit atop the bottles, it can squeeze into tank cabinetry more easily. I would also love a similar solution but hooking directly to the ABC gallon jugs… because… lazy.

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

Have you been through a gallon yet - is the reagent still ok to the end? How often do you find you need to recalibrate with this method?

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

I get it but for me the whole point of the Trident was supposed to be less work. Plus they don’t include a calibration sample. Since the bottles don’t fit in the Trident anyway they could have doubled the reagent volume so I can change them half as often and made an even better product.

    Saltybottom live rock order

Have any of the live rock vendors released any aquabiomics type biodiversity measurements or provided any “minimum biodiversity” guarantee? I found modern Florida live rock to be sorrowfully deficient in diversity - I think everyone is better served getting a gallon of water from a friend’s or a...

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

So I noticed the generic (although still expensive at $70 for 2-month supply) ABC reagent bottles are taller and narrower so the Trident tubing is too short to reach the bottom. Plus the three bottles don’t all fit in the Trident drawer. Are we meant to use them to refill the existing Trident...

What is this and should I be concerned?

Well, crabs don’t really live longer than a couple years anyway, and you can’t have anything around that will try to eat it when it molts. If it dies and you find a crab molt then you know maybe your wrasse, nassarius snail, shrimp, emerald crab etc ate it.

    105, 3years on a road of bones

Ah. What else you dosing between the two Red Sea dosers? I am getting close to adding a second for my tank and scrapping my BRS doser + Apex scheme because they work so well.

What is this and should I be concerned?

Unfortunately you can only keep one arrow crab per tank because they fight among themselves but they definitely enjoy tearing up the bristleworms.

Looking good! What is that tall clear and white acrylic cylinder with the black and white tubing in it?

Back at it with another random thought.

Probably plastics could have the biggest effects on endocrine systems/reproduction since acrylic and superglue don’t typically contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals like phthalates and plasticizers. Maybe it only matters if you are rearing clownfish or something though.

Rehome Pygmy Angel - Walnut Creek

If it helps anyone thinking about adpoting this fish… I had a pygmy angel in a 90 gallon and had to rehome it to a 200 gallon. They are so fiercely territorial, despite their size, that they will die trying to destroy any fish that won’t or can’t swim away or hide from it. This is why juvenile...

Worth switching to ABC Reagents? Any issues?

I just bought CoralVue’s Trident reagents at Neptunes yesterday, they are $70. I haven’t tried them yet.

    Bettas!

Yea. Can you keep them in a harem though?

    Bettas!

I went to Neptune’s the other day and took my daughter along, so for once I ended up in the freshwater section. I could not believe the colors of betta fish - when did this happen? The pic doesn’t do the black bettas justice… their scales were bright silver like a discoball, this one looked...

Strategy(s) for adding fish to large tank?

I would get the tangs and foxface in there first so you don't get a runaway algae problem. And then if algae stays under control you could add more fish...

Some of my euphilias are desintegrating

+1 on mixing MgCl+MgS but also doing regular water changes will help prevent the Na/Cl imbalance from dosing 2-part. However, your iodine is 226ug/l? I don't trust ICP tests to be always accurate, but do you think that's possible - how much iodine have you been dosing? Or how much...

    Joe's Reef Journey

In the past when your toadstool shed did it cause any problems for the tank? Or you think it was shedding due to some other stressor…?

Some of my euphilias are desintegrating

Yea I think you're right, once you get a 'funk' in a tank it can start showing as white areas/bacteria infections on acros etc.
