    Advice, 180.5 stock list

Ah ok. I wouldn't do the purple and the gem tang. I'd do one or the other. You could do a bristletooth (tomini/kole) instead of the one you don't choose. Less likely to fight and better algae coverage. With the swallowtail angel, and if you want to add 2 more genicanthus plus a...

Is this fish only or are you planning on keeping corals? Also it's 180 but 5'x2"? So 30" tall?

Hi New Sucker from East Bay

Most people use dry rock these days but I've done it both ways (pacific live rock when that was still was a thing). I think both have merits. You will get pest hitchhikers from live rock but you'll also get cool beneficial ones. Dry rock is more sterile to start but stuff will get in off frag...

    CaptainB's 110g (Marcus)

Yeah I'm thinking to monitor conditions in the new tank for maybe a week or two before I connect it to the existing system. I'd just leave it 90% full or whatever so it doesn't overflow to the sump. Throw some established rock in there to get stuff colonizing the dead rock and dry sand. During...

    CaptainB's 110g (Marcus)

It's clean. Some is from an old setup and some is mined rock that was never used but I put it all in a bleach bath for a week then soaked in freshwater with prime.

    CaptainB's 110g (Marcus)

So how should I connect the new system to my existing in terms of equilibrating them? Stuff in my frag tank is doing decent I don't want to bomb it. I will be filling the new tank with dead rock and sand. I was thinking to run it with water/rock/sand like 3/4 full with a small clip on skimmer...

    CaptainB's 110g (Marcus)

It'll fit but not perfect. The pipes will drop 1/2" ish when I remove the furniture sliders under the stand I'm using so I can move it around. The small one is return and the left is main drain with the right 2 trickle and emergency drain.

    CaptainB's 110g (Marcus)

Cut out the pass thru to the fish closet. Unfortunately there were gas lines in the wall between the studs so couldn't be as wide as desired. I built a little box to keep any crap from getting into the wall

    Check valves on return

We also didn't have 3000gph DC pumps with feed modes many moons ago. I never used them either because I know they fail. But as a nice to have they make sense to me now.

    Check valves on return

I'm going to plumb check valves into my return, not because I need them to prevent a flood but just to keep the level constant when I shut off the return to feed and less disturbance when I turn them back on. Are the wye ones from brs better than the flapper/swing ones? Both seem like you can...

Tunze Stream Rock for a peninsula?

I'd never bury anything. I'd just bite the bullet and put a mp40 or mp60 on that far wall if it's sps heavy. Maybe run the cord to the dry side through a small hole in the stand near the base of the tank to keep it as clean looking as possible.

Building my first pond! Any words of wisdom?

Build a place your fish can hide that the racoons can't get them.
