Dave (and Emily's) 24 gallon journal

It's a Kessil A160 Tuna Blue, at peak it's running at 50% (I'm thinking of bumping it up gradually). Not sure what PAR levels are needed for the various corals (frogspawn, candy cane, zoas, favia, discordea, pocillopora); going to tabulate what's recommended for each. I think I'm running a bit...

    Extra CUC

I would love to get some of the snails (ceriths, turbos and Nassarius); I can drop by during the week to pick them up.

    Favia - advance beginner coral?

I've been reefing for about a year and a half now. A favia was my 4th coral; I have a fire favia in a 24 gallon. So far I haven't had any issues with it, has nice color and seems to spreading. It's has added a nice spot of red and green/yellow in the tank.

    Light Recommendations?

Just curious, why do you prefer the Prime over the Kessil @thesassyindian

Best under $20 item you've ever bought for Reefing

I bought these drip bags as a crude ATO system https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098DSSR4D/, although I'm thinking of upgrading to those skemix devices.

Warriors game 2 watch gathering at High Tide Aquatics

Yeah that was fun and great to meet a couple members in person.

Warriors game 2 watch gathering at High Tide Aquatics

I was planning on dropping by to buy some pods and check out the livestock, maybe get a coral or two. Game is at 5? I could around for a bit, although I can't stay since I need to make dinner for the fam.

    COPEPOD CULTURE FOR MANDARIN DRAGONET

@Hella_Salty650 I've been growing both tisbe and tigger pods (although some sites recommend just one species). Right now I'm using this to hatch the eggs https://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/hatchery-dish, provides enough it seems to give the Mandarin a supplemental meal but if you wanted a...

Dave (and Emily's) 24 gallon journal

Added a pygmy cherubfish because there were reports of Angels (including this species) eating hydroids). I haven't seen it directly but several of the colonies are reduced or gone after the addition of "Topaz" (daughter's name for the new fish). Update: nearly all of the hydroid colonies are...

    Throwing in the (salty) towel

Having both a saltwater and freshwater tank, the freshwater is definitely less maintenance and worry. Oscars seem like cool, interactive fish. If only I had a bigger tank.

    COPEPOD CULTURE FOR MANDARIN DRAGONET

I think I'll set up a long term brine shrimp culture and see if I can see any hydroids. If they did come in on the eggs I'm using then I should see some after some time.

    COPEPOD CULTURE FOR MANDARIN DRAGONET

I came across a few links like the one below but perusing it does seem like a fair number of reputable sources are saying it's not the eggs (https://seahorsesavvy.com/blogs/news/hydroids-in-a-seahorse-aquarium). So I'm probably just feeding the hydroids that were in the tank already with the...

    COPEPOD CULTURE FOR MANDARIN DRAGONET

Also a word of caution about live brine shrimp from eggs, apparently it's a common way for hydroids to hitchhike in. I had a recent hydroid outbreak probably due to overfeeding with plankton/pods and maybe live brine.

    COPEPOD CULTURE FOR MANDARIN DRAGONET

I have a mandarin in a 24 gallon that appears to be thriving. He was tiny when I got him about half an inch in length and now's he's about 1.5 inches after about 2 months. I highly recommend getting a captive bred one that was raised on non-live foods, although they are about 3X more...

Dave (and Emily's) 24 gallon journal

Outbreak of digitate (and may be colony) hydroids. Took out one of the rocks to scrub and dip several of the corals that had hydroids on them (not sure if Coral Revive will do the job).

Are these "sweeper tentacles" from the favia/favites

Hmm maybe they are hydroids. Are these something to worry about, should I consider manual removal? They apparently can sting zoas in particular (and maybe the favia there).

Are these "sweeper tentacles" from the favia/favites

I have a favia (at least I think it's a favia) growing near a zoa (favia left hand side, zoa on the right). There are a bunch of fine white "tendrils" that appear to extend from the favia and down along the side of the rock. They now appear to be on the zoa itself. Are these coming from the...

Dave (and Emily's) 24 gallon journal

I kept a spreadsheet for a while of the Calcium, alkalinity, pH for about 3 months. Average Ca = 409 (19 readings), dKh = 9.12 (20 readings). pH = 8.16 (15 readings). Salinity is measured with refractometer with a goal of ~1.025 specific gravity.
