    Fresh Water Top Off

Update: My Tunze is working like a champion. It's maintaining such an even level of my sump that my skimmer is working about 100% more efficiently. It has a float switch override in case the optical sensor goes south. The secondary float switch is mounted on the same magnetic holder that the...

You-betcha! We dove a "Blue Hole" in Palau as well. Diving R Us. Last summer we dove Taveuni Island and Kadavu Island in the Fiji chain. Our second trip to Fiji and always a blast. We swam with mantas off Kadavu. Cool Dudes! :)

    Fresh Water Top Off

Great input, Con and Mitch. Brilliant idea about allowing the fresh water input rinse the float switch. Since I've got the Tunze on line, does anyone need a JBJ top off? I've got two of them with switches etc. Just let me know if you want to give the JBJ set up a go. Thanks, Con for what I...

    Fresh Water Top Off

A while back........a LONG while........I bought a JBJ auto top off set up for a very affordable price. I think it was about $90. After a while I noticed that it's float switches would occasionally stick from salt and precipitate build up. I got in the habbit of grabbing the switch and it's...

Zapping aptasia, what I've learned "so far"

I've had no time to build the DIY zapper although it is still on my list. I've recently kalked so many aptasia in my tank that the Ph rose from 8.1 to about 8.45. Man..........I may get back on the trail of a monster CBB to place into the tank but I'm already very fish heavy. I recently added...

    99sf's 150-Gallon Upgrade

Very nice, Christina. Your tank looks GREAT. Watch that Sunset Monti.........it will encrust and encrust and encrust. I love it and let it just "have it's way" in my tank. 8-)

    Blazing Purple and Green Favia

Hi Ryan, That is a very hearty favia. It lends to sawing well. I would simply let it encrust the disc to over the edge then saw it into 4 pieces, in half then in half again. Should do just fine. If you need a saw, you are always welcome to swing by San Carlos and use mine. :)

Euphyllia's 8 Gallon Dwarf Seahorse Tank

Ending note on this thread: Matthew, I admire your enthusiasm about embracing and trying a little bit of everything. There are a lot of species I've kept somewhat unsuccessfully. We don't like to talk about our failures. I've learned to REALLY research my interest before committing to having...

    Lighting change over

So far so good on the LED conversion. I've chosen to add two more banks of white. Robert had one strip in stock and it's already mounted. The last strip should be available in a week or so. BTW. I had to do a better job of wrasse proofing the new DIY top. Here's why" I had just set a...

    ORA Mandarin Goby

My green spotted mandarin eats like a horse. Don't think I've ever seen it eat pellets, but they are part of a daily offering. It's been in the tank for over 6 months and does NOT like other mandarins! He dispatched an emerald green mandarin that I added to add to the reef in mistake number...

Carpet Anenome - To Keep or Naught

How about the mini-carpets? I really like them, saw some beauties at Jess's place but have not taken the dive myself. I was not aware that they kill reef fish. Makes me shiver to think about losing a single fish to a nem. Of course, that's what they live on in nature. I guess carpets are...
