Need Champions and Ideas to make use of the BAR funds

Not saying I am against it, but what is that, what does it measure, what actionable information can we get from it for our tanks, and how much is it? (Mostly just curious)

    Memorial Day Sales

50% off ora coral at brs, I stocked up on a few frags and a carbon reactor SWaquarium also has some stuff on sale, got some expired food and amino acids for cheap, lol

I kind of did this with the Fiesta Vallarta tank in downtown Los Altos. They were really happy when I was able to help, but I had to move away and the next guy who took over wasn't as good, lol. I like the idea a lot. Maybe take a few systems and set up softie tanks around different locations...

Diving straight in - Sameer's Waterbox Infinia 230.6 build thread

No need to debate in your head. Watch the fish. If they are eating all of the food you put in, do it again in an hour or two. If they aren't eating all of the food, feed less each time. 4x feeds a day minimum for fish like chromis that swim around a lot. Tangs graze all day and would love 4...

    Moving a tank

@robert4025 @Kensington Reefer @Coral reefer @Srt4eric I want to see what you guys say on a 10' tank. With enough people (and suction cups), anything is possible.

Pipe / hose cleaning utensils / brushes

Some nice black electrical tape over the top of the clear tubing and you'll never need to clean the inside of the tube again! Also works on those pesky yellow and red dashboard lights that distract you while driving.

Alternative power back-up solutions (not Ecoflow brand)

This thread got me browsing online, and one thought I would like to add is that there are some really good deals on refurbished battery backup units on ebay from the official seller like Ecoflow. I am looking at getting a River 3 unit at $130 refurbished which says works like new with some...

Welcome to Gran Playa Del Mar

I thought we were doing this the easy way? Way to step up the difficulty level there! It does look good though.

    Non-Permanent Adhesives

I would need to see the attachment points to give my best opinion, but in no particular order. -Fishing line (can use blue tape to hold tension against the aquarium with knots in the line) -Zip ties -Reef Safe Silicone (will need time to cure/dry) -Magnets, like a glass cleaner or frag box/rack...

I meant ecoflow, like the river2 unit. Ecotech needs to have their lead acid batteries updated to lipo. I have an old thread saved on how to do that. Got a link to the thread talking about these?

Need Champions and Ideas to make use of the BAR funds

My only thought here is how much cheaper and more effective fans are at keeping temps low if you have unlimited rodi to account for evaporation. None the less I agree with the sentiment here. Maybe vornado fans. Although I am of the opinion that anyone with a system with over $1k alive should...

    Firereefer's 168g

You won't be nuking it all, that stuff lives on in your sump rocks. Also why we suggest doing one rock at a time, so the micro fauna can catch up and repopulate the rocks in the sump. You got this!

    Firereefer's 168g

Just toss the whole rock in fire. Those things are terrible. More serious solutions are cover the entire mat with an epoxy sheet, or take the rock out and use the fire of the sun for two weeks in your yard. It can detach from the rock and show up in the plumbing eventually. I assume it...

    Alex’s IM 150 EXT

Then you would miss out on all of my mom's cool stories from her time on a whaling ship and what the first thing they cut off a male fin whale then they drag it on the ship is. Hint, her major professor picked it up and swung the 8 foot piece around. You are right, the 80's were a wild time.

Chloramine MONSTER - San Jose Poll

Probably not. I run the chloramine block then the carbon block because brs said it was better if chloramine was in the water and it is in most places now. What is making you question this now? I only would if everyone in a huge area all of a sudden lost a bunch of stuff. Also, couldn't you...

    Michael's 300 In Vegas

Got the tank cleaned up, got a little more coral, and got some flow going. I've had endless trouble with the wav pumps. I'm down to 3 working ones after starting with 10 new pumps three to two years ago. Not a great track record there. I now have 4x reef octopus 4+ pumps, 3x mp 60's, and 3 wav...

How to properly set up a stock tank?

It needs an appropriately sized heater and a way to move water to mix with oxygen, with some live rock for filtration ready to go. Wavemaker or pump works fine. A light is a nice to have, as is a screen. An ato will save you some time but you can make a mark on the outside of the tank and...

Hello! Just moved from Toronto to SF

Next BAR talk, how to catch the fish yourself by @PjFish One thought I had on the NSA style is that it might not give fish enough hides to come out and feel comfortable. To help with that you could add some fist sized rocks in a pretty pile or two to give the fish a place to hide when they...
