Not sure if I will let myself get tempted here or not. I'm suppose to be getting rid of multiple smaller tanks not setting up another one. Do frag tanks count?

In addtion to the 200 gallon tank i'm will be setting up a 50 gallon frag tank for the garage.

Has anyone already sourced equipment for this? Who is ready to start on Jan 1st with their build?

I recently ALMOST got an entire setup for $200. I was a few minutes too late messaging the seller though. So bummed. Other option is new tank, but that seriously dips into the budget cap. Or go super cheapo?!

If any of you have specific topics or concerns, this is the place to hash it out so we can make changes before we get started.

I was vaguely interested depending on the cost I was able to do this for, but now that I am setting up a monti QT with the tank I was going to use, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do this contest either since i can’t fill until next year (and there’s already water in the monti system)

Does this need to be started on January 1st??? Or can some one jump in later in the year. It's challenge to start something during Holiday season.

I would assume there would be some cut off point to when you could join the contest if you don't have to start by the 1st? I imagine it wouldn't be fair to join a week before it ends.

Overall I think more may sign up if there is more time to start or a date listed as in you must start by x time?

No pressure intended from me personally. However I would be more open to consider I Joining in after I get my new tanks, and manage to get them up and running first.

Im definitely on the fence. I want to do it but definitely want to sleep comfortably without the worries of getting stabbed in my sleep by the wife if I do.

@MichaelB Most of the guidelines were posted. Some minor tweaks may occur between now and the start, but the primary ones are in place to review.
 
Is there a way I can “reset” my tank? I filled it yesterday to act as a QT; if I drain it and dismantle completely on Jan 1 and do the whole setup process again can it count as new

I would think it’s the same a pay it foward type thing within reason. As most of this contest will hinge on the honor system and people being honest about valves.

Now a $8000 set up claimed as a christmas gift from a spouse lmao will probably get some critical suspicous looks.

Shouldn’t it be treated equally? If my spouse gifted me a complete 250 gallon setup with all the bells and whistles on January 1st, vs if I got gifted a heater? If we are saying the gifted heater adds $0 to the budget, why should a gift of greater value add any more?
