Neptune Aquatics

Bfirecat's Red Sea 525XL

Checked copper this morning, at 1.57ppm.
Was hoping to see it at one, and slowly raise it to 2.

I'll raise it up to 2 over the next two days.
Also added 7.5ml of Rid Ich Plus.

Feeding pellets and red algae, all the fish are eating and active.

Update on the treatment.
I think I went too quickly on the copper (went from 0-1.5 in a day), and the fish really didn't like it.
After 10 days, most of them died.
Only the 2 clowns and the fire fish are left, but they seem to be doing really well.

On the main tank, moved a ton of stuff around and corals finally seem happy.
Pics to come soon.

The lenses came in, some updated pics.
After removing all the fish, nitrates went down to zero. Started dosing more amino acids to keep up but no luck.
Ordered in Neonitro and will start dosing tomorrow.

That tank tools so clean with the clear back. But it’s double the work cleaning the glass

Are you doing the AB+ manually? I got some acro power so I could automate the amino dosing for my tank, but I believe the AB+ can be left out for a week if you fill the container with the amount that would be used in that week.

I am doing AB+ manually. I've read that you need to clean the dosing container well and the tubing as well.
I was considering dosing other aminos, how do you like acropower? (I know its a staple in SPS keeping)

I haven’t been using it long enough to recommend it or not, but I haven’t noticed any visual change since switching to it from AB+. And when I had started dosing AB and eventually AB+ I was able to see an increase in PE from euphylia and just an increase in “puffiness” from other LPS. I haven’t noticed any significant decrease in those visual benefits though, and it is easier to just have the doser deal with it.

I dose both and notice improvement drastically with ab+. It worked so well I ordered a whole bunch of those.

Added on two Reefbrite XHO-K30’s to my Gen 3 radions.
I love them so far (first impression). It brought out more colors than the radions alone.
I run my radions on 30% and it did well for softies and lps.
However, I tried some sps and the acros browned out.

I also grabbed some Acropower to do amino acid dosing with, and seeing if that helps more or less than AB+.

After dosing nitrates, some color is slowing returning, especially on the rainbow and superman montis.

Can’t wait for the fallow period to be over so we can restock with healthy fish!

Another one of my OG bounces started bleaching and I’m not sure why.
This happened before the lighting additions.

All the other mushrooms are super happy.

To remedy this, I got some zooxanthalle in the form of phytocure and their live zooxanthalle bag.
Hopefully this will help the two bounces recover.

Following this because al my OG B
bleached or melted at some point. Right now I
Target dosing ab+ daily and one og is not as bleached as it was. 2 weeks so far.

Just another tank update.
Waiting on PAR meter to figure out how to raise the radions, max is running at 33% now with the reef brites.

Mag - 1450
Phosphate - .06
Nitrate - 8

Thanks, figured it would be easiest to provide updates like this.

Any suggestions on how to fix the current issues like the favia bleaching?

Would it be wise to just keep super easy sps like the montipora and skip on the acros? I feel bad that they browned out.

Brown corals > dead corals (better than not leads to) Everyone learns the hard way. Maybe start with easier sps and once you’ve had some success try some more challenging sps.
Looks like your chemistry and nutrients are more or less ideal. Dial in the lighting and set see what happens.

Hey everyone,

I've been considering adding a UV sterilizer to my tank.
I'm terrible with plumbing and wanted something done like what BRS has on their tanks. A closed loop system with a pump in the display, and the piping hanging off the end.
My goal is to clear up tank water (it has been looking cloudy lately) and also for parasite/disease management.

It looks like the popular ones are Pentair and Aqua Ultraviolet, do you guys have a preference?
Judging by the guides, it looks like a 25w should do for my tank size.
Does anyone in the area do installation of UV sterilizers?

Thanks!

Got the par meter and the results are for peak lighting are:

Top level - 70 - 270 - 180 - 270 - 70
Mid Level - 55 - 200 - 150 - 200 - 55
Bottom - 50 - 120 - 90 - 120 - 50

These numbers seem reasonably good for a mixed tank, I'm not sure if I should adjust any settings.
The acro's are still browned out, the montipora are doing well now and growing/encrusting/coloring up.
