Our mission

Calcium reactor, ok what do I need?

Keep us posted!

I'm thinking that once you get the numbers all figured out, the 2-part dosing won't be all that much of a pain :D

Maybe we can do a tank chemistry walk-through for a future club meeting round-table discussion.

We could do water tests for tank samples and freshly made up Oceanic, IO, Reef Crystals or whatever. Then calculate any dosing required for balancing alk/Ca/Mg parameters.

FYI tested the Instant Ocean I mixed up

SG 1.022
Ca 360 +/- 20ppm
Alk 9.0 +/- 1dKH

When I was using IO, I would dose the freshly made sw with 8ml of Ca and 8ml of Mg per gallon before changing water.

Switched to Reef Crystals recently, and I just use it straight.

I've been fine just using it for regular water changes. I figure it's close enough to IO, especially since I add Ca and Mg to IO, that it's no big deal to switch it in.

Gang, this is a great thread. Mike, thanks for posting your frustration. I too have been working to bring up CA (which is taking forever) and all this advice is a big help.
