Dipping for nuisance algae

I am sure it would have saved my tank from a red strand, bushy thread type that is covering the rocks now anywhere light hits them bright.

Dunno, I've though about it in the past on occasion and I'm not quite sure how to approach it. Not tech-m in specific though just herbicidal.

What I'd be curious to, would be the use of Fluorish Excel in the saltwater setting. It is quite effective at killing red aglae in the FW world.

I think a toothbrush works wonders on certain types of algae too, I'm no biologist though.

Don't you FW guys dip your plants in potassium permanganate to get rid of pest algae?

And even dose the tank with it?

Yep. And depends on concentration.

I've tried some super concentrated potassium permanganate on rocks to get rid of some nasty algaes (turf is one) and I found it didn't do much unless I left it in for a really long time (days), which unfortunately for corals would be a tad too much time

Of course it might be more effective against other algaes.

I've got no inside intel on that Tony. Haha. I've wondered if there was anything we could do for a long time. Never figured anything out. Excel may be an idea though. Never brave enough to try.

I do have a chemical engineer father who killed bugs and plants for a living who is married to a botanist who killed plants for a living as well, I'll inquire with them and see what they say.

I would be worried the algacide in Excel would kill the good guys in corals.

The algacide with excel is weird. It's also a food source to higher level plants. Excel is just 2 things. Water and a polymerized glutaraldehyde compound.

Whatever compound is used I'd imagine it would have to be a quick dip to prevent any damage to the zoax.
