I started my first 10 gallon nano-reef tank on 9/5/11 and upgraded to the current 30 gallon tank in January 2012.

Quite the collection of different life in there.

I am curious if there is a story behind the "Scuba Inspired" part of the title.

Haha, no more upgrading for me. I have absolutely no room for a bigger tank. And yeah, I know I should really be using RO water, but so far I haven't had an issue with the tap water and I haven't found a convenient place to buy RO/DI water.

Yeah, I've been trying to get a good variety of things in the tank. And I've been calling it scuba inspired because thats really what made me want a reef tank. I love watching all the life when I go diving and its so relaxing. I wanted to have my own little piece of the ocean at home. I'd love to have a temperate tank with the species I see diving in the CA kelp forests, but since I'm still so new to this I didn't want to get in over my head with the chiller and less common species. Maybe when I get way more experienced at this, I'll try a CA kelp forest tank.
 
Our coast really is awesome, everytime I visit Pillar Point I go out and look for sea slugs. I want to try a 2.5 gallon tank one day dedicated to a nudi.

Yeah I love all the nudis around here. They are such amazingly bright colors. A nudi dedicated pico would be awesome :)

Your tank has evolved a lot since the photos at the end of January. Are you still making changes or is the tank layout fairly stable now? The zoa colonies look fantastic! I could see a few places where the SPS and LPS corals had clearly grown.
 
Thanks! I had just moved into the bigger tank back in January, so I was still adding things and changing things around a lot. I think its about set now, just letting things grow out and fill in. Everything has grown a ton in the last few months, so I'm considering trying my had at fragging some things in a few weeks. :)

Did you shoot these photos with a macro lens? I'm really tempted to pick one up because the lenses I have just aren't sufficient to get amazing shots. =/
 
Nope, those were all taken with my Canon SX230HS, which is one of Canon's line high-end point and shoots, so its not a DSLR. I'd love to have a DSLR with an awesome macro lens, but since I want whatever camera I have to be able to go diving with me, its out of my budget to buy an expensive DSLR, an expensive lens, and an expensive underwater case and strobes etc. So right now I've got my nice point and shoot which has a 14x optical zoom, 28 mm wide angle lens, and reasonable macro ability, since it had a much more affordable underwater housing for diving. Someday I'm going to get a DSLR with an awesome macro lens and be able to take beautiful photos of my tank :)
