From some people that have far more actual training in the field then you or I the compound could be taken out by carbon or your skimmer OR you could have far too much nutrients to make it effect the growth much (enough food to not worry about the chemical?). Just speculating here.

Works in the fuge, but it's an attractive algae so I keep it in my display tank.
