got ethical husbandry?

For those interested in buying G2 Red Sea tanks

I reached out to a few members of Reef2Reef who claim to have G2 failures. Will update here if I get any more SN pics back

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to look at the serial number and determine if the tank is a G1 or G2. Unlike the labels provided in this thread, mine does not have reference to a "v" - it is just a single string of numbers. Thanks

From the labels I’ve seen, G2 will have a QR code and say G2. ie “Red Sea Reefer 300 G2”

lol I have had three of their tanks ranging from g1 to g2. In fact the only product that stands out to me that I haven’t tried of theirs is there reefled.

So the answer to your questions is that I am very qualified in my assessment of their products.

They suck.

I like their ATO and dosing pump, maybe their wavemakers. Other than that, no disagreement here.

I’ve owned 8 reef wave 45s. 5 failed within two years over the last 5 years as I’ve upgraded tanks, which I replaced the motors for a wonderful $150 each.

Reefmat 1200 owned for 6 months and just replaced that motor with a new one from Ali baba that was $15 compared to the $50 they quoted me for a new one.

1 seam failure

3 times I got reef ab+ and it have shit growing on the inside it.

They have poor quality control in my opinion and thus if anyone asks me about their products I can say with all confidence that generally I find most of their products to be trash.

Which I don’t think is very dumb given my experience.

I am biased since I experienced a seem failure. But I will no longer buy any more red sea products. It seems to have gone beyond the tanks now into other products they make. Oh well.

Thanks for the more detailed explanation to your point of view. I can understand why you think they suck now.

Maybe it’s just my luck, but I’ve owned multiple Red Sea G1 tanks ranging from their desktop nano to the largest being a XXL525 and never had any major issues with them. I’ve used their RSK skimmers 300 and 600, ReefLED90 and 50, ReefATO+, ReeferWave45 and 25, Reefmat1200 and 500, ReefDose 4 and have also used their AB+ with no major issues.

I will say their ReefBeat app leaves more to be desired, ReefLed WiFi connection sucks, Reefwave rubber pieces that holds the magnets breaks apart after a couple years of use, but maybe that was from the week long soak in citric acid.

Seems like most of the “haters” has experienced a seam failure, poor customer service and was given a less than optimal tank replacement options so in that regard I agree that they suck.

I've had a G1 250 for 4 years without seam failure. I guess I'm lucky, but also the tank is on the smaller end which helps.

That being said, the front glass panel hanging off the edge of the stand with zero support makes no sense...

The real issue for me is the CS. Products have issues, companies iterate (as Red Sea has done). Things fail and not everything is a home run. They are producing a lot of products for the hobby and put sincere effort into what they develop, I think.

But their customer service is shamefully abysmal - so fuck 'em.
