You might wanna look into "barn door track system." A couple guys on RC use this system to move their frame/racks. Can also hit your local hydroponic store and get a motorized rail. :) The Unistrut that G mentioned looks like a nice setup also.

IME they corrode fairly easily, granted I've not used them on tanks, but in my old aquaculture facility they failed often due to a minute amount of salt spray.

Good point. All the wholesaler I have worked at have had the sliding door tracks replaced multiple times do to corrosion.

UniStrut you can get in all kinds of materials :)

Hey the Ab farm has been ordering again... Seems like he's making a go of it again? Get to the bottom of it please

Regardless of the rolling mechanism you choose:

1) Make sure to build the light fixture out of 6061 structural Aluminum.
Minimal extra cost. Corrosion resistance, and every pound will count, so
best to keep the weight down.

2) You may want to move MH ballasts off of the light fixture, and down toward the garage.
Again, reduces weight. Plus, I bet it gets real hot up in that fixture, even with the vent,
so might fry electronics.
Just make sure the extra connectors and wiring is up to the task.

That's odd, I just spoke with my pop last night and he said they were pretty much done, I suspect they are producing a ton of spat to make a few bucks before they close up shop.

Also, the family is fighting over the property and it looks like they are going to loose it due to their internal greed and their inability to pay for the lawsuits that have been filed to block the development of a section of the property to pay for the death tax. If you've ever seen the bumper stickers that say "save Goleta" that is in reference to the ranch, it's quite a crazy story right now :~

New thought:
Do your doors close roughly near the center of the light rack?
You could use a single I-beam track for the light rack, with a simple trolley mechanism.
You permanently attach the I beam end in the garage, to the roof.
You then carefully cut the "I" in your fire doors, at the joint where they close.
So when they close, the doors just touch each side of the beam.
(Basically sideways U on each)
Might be a little bit tippy as it goes in and out, but plenty strong.
And that way it can go all the way out, with no monkeying around attaching things.
You could even add some simply line pulleys to get it in/out.

Interesting....I'll give it some thought.

Heavy duty drawer sliders?

They were my first choice, but drawer guides only extend 1/2 the length of the guides correct ? So even a 4' guide will only extend 2'...which unfortunately doesn't leave me with a lot of room.

Yes, thought of that also, would sure be simple.
And they do sell heavy duty 150 pound "over travel" drawer slides, like here:
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=21998&filter=over%20travel%20drawer%20slides
But I do not know of any that go 4 feet. That is way beyond your normal drawer.
Although you could stagger them. - Two x 24" = 48". But loads go way up.

Any real idea on the weight of the fixture??

check section 400 page 423 and 424.

I have a wholesale account there.
This place has everything and is in SF.

I like the over travel guides, not sure if it gives enough clearance though. If the fixture is made of aluminum the weight shouldn't be a problem...especially if I go with 2 separate light racks.

They have all the hardware you could imagine. And more.
I can order what ever you want and have it drop shipped to you or you could pick it up on a COD will call.

John,

I ordered the hanging kit for the maristar fixture I got from H20 player. How do you like the radium 20k's w/the lumatek ballast ?

Still not to late to go LED.
Very thin lighter fixtures, so easy to slide or raise. A lot less heat trapped up in there.

And as a huge bonus, an excuse to delay putting water in. J)
I have been waiting over a month now just to get parts in.

Ha..Ha..I should have "reworded" that...How do you like the radium's after the burn in period ? CookieJar mentioned it wasn't as blue after they burned in. Is there a good time to checkout the tank ?
