Got a job interview today..

Well I got the call back from the hiring manager today. He said that he and other two managers who interviewed me like me a lot BUT (a big a$$ BUT) they can't hire a current employee relative. I have a friend who work in the company and he is the guy introduced me to his manager.

Would you guy consider me and him are related (American way)? Vietnamese's way yes, we are somewhat related. A loooooooonngggg distant relative is what we call that  :tired: . This sh$t is confusing so I will try to explain as good as I can  .. His wife's Great Grandfather is a brother of my wife's Grandmother. That made my wife and his wife's mother somewhat cousin :quest: . So his wife and him call us Uncle and Aunt. Everything is happening on our wife's family side. Got lost yet?? J) :|

The guy said he will talk to HR again to see if they can hire me because they really want me to join them.

Yeah... the idiot said to his manager that's I'm his Uncle that's why  .. Oh well.. more time for me to work on the house and the new tank

Sorry to hear that Phong.

Usually it goes something like this, here in America (Straight from the H.R. Corporate Hand book)
Page 22, Paragraph 8, Subsection c, Footnote 1a

"If your wife (or some other 'close' relative) works here, we can't hire you in this department. Maybe, we can find you a job in a different department. (or: "Instead, we can fire your wife or other relative working here and make room for you here...."). (Just kidding about the firing part)

But seriously man. Many companies will let a relative or spouse work in a different department, if there is another department.

In any event, sorry for the disappointing news.

I can relate to your quest in a way. It's Friday: Go a have a beer with some friends. Oh that's right: Everyday is Friday when I'm out of work too.

Eeesh, Phong.

Just point out to them that every last asian teaches their kids to call adult friends, acquaintances, neighbors, etc. Auntie and Uncle!

"No you're really not related to the mailman or the Korean guy at the gas station."

That's ok Joel. Even if I don't get the job, I'm ok. My wife actually happy when she hear that I didn't get it :~ ..
Thanks for the info on the HR stuff :) ..

That is so true Norman

I still don't get it :D

Anyway I just got another offer to work as a temp for UA Airline. It's a 2-3 months job. Wondering if I should take it.. :~

Temp jobs sometimes turn into permanent jobs. It's an opportunity for the company to meet you and for you to "try" the company. $0.02

You should take the temp job to increase your unemployment benefits, or if it is a part time temp job, you can still receive unemployment and a paycheck.

There was a movie where they were talking about how many times removed they were from Kevin Bacon (actor who was famous at the time). They say everyone is only 6 people away from anyone it's called six degrees of seperation, so they changed it in the movie to six degrees of kevin bacon because it was relevant for the time and it rhymes :)

I am only three handshakes away from Kevin Bacon myself :D I knew Denise Richards parents when they owned a coffee shop in the city I lived in, who in turn know Denise Richards, she was in Wild Things with Kevin Bacon.

I would take it Phong. IMO, 2-3 months job is much better than 2-3 months staying at home, IMO.

The hiring manager called me back and said HR let him hire me. He will send me an offer soon..

Thanks everyone for the support!!!
