got ethical husbandry?

Hello Everyone, brand new to BAR,

Hello everyone, my name is Cuong(Cung) and I just stumbled upon this forum while shopping at my local fish store (Neptune Aquatics). I am currently 19 and going to SJSU but I love the saltwater hobby and working on my tank when I have the free time to do so. I was told lots of great things about this forum and I'm excited to continue this hobby knowing about this forum.

I currently have a 30 gallon tank that is approximately 1 month and 1 week old. Unfortunately, I do not have the time and space for a sump so I just have a HOB skimmer and a HOB filter.

I am very passionate about this hobby and I hope to meet new people that feel the same!

and also im from SJ area :)

That's a great starter tank and setup. Would love to see a journal and pictures!

You'll definitely find passionate people here!

Welcome!

What do you mean by a journal? Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is my first time being a part of a forum like this hahah.

And I just did some maintenance on my tank so everything is a little unhappy hahah. Hopefully by tomorrow, everything will be back to normal so I could get some pictures!

No worries, no bad questions here.

A lot of us make tank journals in the journal sub forum to post pics of their tanks and journey.

Here's one of mine

Welcome!!! I'm also in San Jose. Like they have said before please consider becoming a supporting member. Tons of benefits for the $30 like workshops and the ability to borrow equipment.

Even if you don't become a supporting member you should start a tank journal. Here's mine.

Hey Eric! It's cool to see you are also from the SJ area. I have already considered becoming a supporting member, I just gotta put some money aside as the saltwater hobby is not a great hobby for a broke college student lol. Awesome tank btw!

Welcome! seems to be a ton of members in SJ

Welcome! A long time ago I was also a reefer at SJSU and knew a couple others. Hah I remember what it was like to do major budget reefing and DIYing everything.

If you save $30 that you'd spend on coral and come to one of the club's member coral swaps, i promise you'll get way more from the generous people here. Plus meeting others on this community.

Wow that’s really interesting actually. I knew obviously there was other people out there like me but I never would’ve thought I’d be talking to them and they are from my school. Such a small world we live in.

Yeah the coral meetups are one of the things I’m most excited about, I’m kinda in my honeymoon phase where every little coral excites me hahah.

Welcome to the club! I’m also in the area. How is SJSU?

30g and HOB is alright - I’m running a 20 with hob also without a sump
Hey! SJSU is great! I live pretty close by so the commute is never an issue and my workload is manageable so I still have plenty of time to do what I like.

Does your 20 gallon have an all in one compartment? The previous owner of this tank took apart the all in one compartment of the tank for more space and now I’m stuck wondering if I have enough filtration?

Nope. Just a Petco glass box with 5 sides.
