Our mission

I need a new tv.

In the TV world, it is "ancient", but I did a lot of research on this subject almost 2 years ago and went with the 52" Sharp Aquos. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Yeah, when I did a search for LCD vs Plasma, or What good things there were for LCD tvs, etc, man I got articles from 2005 as the top searches for Google, wish there was a time filter for that thing!

Mike, your new best friend should be this forum:

In particular, the LCD flat panel forum

Also, this is a great wall mount.

I have this one. install was easy and the quality is excellent. The same thing will be $200-$600 retail.

Didn't even really consider wall mounts yet, in fact not quite sure if I want a wall mount on simply a table setup (hey all the equipment has to go somewhere right?? :D). But that looks like one of those nifty ones that goes in multiple directions. How far does it make the TV stick away from the wall when it's "flat" against the wall? Last thing I want is a nice wall mounted tv with 4 inches of stuff behind it.
Then this is the last thing you want! (About 4 inches)
Its really nice when you want to plug anything in to the back though.
I built mine into a cabinet that hides the sides. Love it!

hey Mike it was just the deal they were offering...did you try the link. You just got to keep your eyes open.

Arnold: Tried the link, and while the webpage says $1000, none of the vendors actually sell it for that price. But like you said you gotta keep looking for those deals.

I've narrowed my search down a bit.
46"/47", that seems to be the optimal size
Samsung or Sony, while some other brands look good too, don't know if I want to bet my money on some off shoot brand. Now is just a matter of comparing all the various model numbers, and seeing if those extras really are worth the extra money, i.e. most Samsungs except the 5-series have fricking aerobics and recipes built into the damn tv!? I mean really now, is that necessary. Unfortunately I can't get a 6/7/8 series without that feature which I am paying for whether I want to or not.

mike -yeah i see dell changed their price...if you want to see the TV running just let me know. You can come by and see it.

Nah it's cool Arnold, I've seen that model, and just about every other model of TV Sony puts out over the past couple days... also strange that Best Buy employees give me dirty looks when I turn the brightness and contrast down on their TVs to see what they will look like! :D

I like my Samsung. Also, stick with something that has 120hz. It makes all the action seem more fluid and life-like and thus, much more clear. Samsung has a Automotion option that you can dial up or down the hz to your liking. Oh yeah, get a blueray player as well.

If I was in the market for a new tv, I would get the new LED's :) http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=ledtv&model_cd=UN46B7000WFXZA

i bought my 50" panasonic plasma at frys in fremont for $1300.00 usually sells for double. they had great deals. not sure if they still have them though. i bought it at the start of the year.

Mike try this - dell deal, but its the s series of the TV I got....mine was a V series. Just announce 45 minutes ago.

wow that thing is nice...

I have nothing but great things to say about my 47" samsung 1080p.
Hd chanels look awesome, dvd too. Blue ray or PS3 look insanely good.
Scored at fry's (hate to say it) for $1100 (love to say that!)
No complaints whatsoever...

Well I'm definitely not going the plasma route, I made up my mind about that, I won't even consider a plasma tv.

Erick: VERY tempting, those suckers are ultra-thin too. However at $2200 (cheapest I could find for a 46") I think that's out of my price range.

Arnold: Yeah I saw that, unsure about the model though, the S series is the "economy" series, and the 4100 I believe was last years model (not that it makes THAT much difference with this year) but I'm still weighing in features to see if it's really worth it.

Mona: Gonna have to pass on that :D I need HD :D

Scbowla: What model was it? I just came back from fry's this morning, didn't see any Samsungs in that range at the size/models I was looking at. I might sit on my hands for a few more days before making a move on any tv, seems the sales come and go very quickly, such that a super good deal is around the corner, so might just wait for one of my "final picks" and see if it comes on sale.

I think the V5100 also has the 120Hz dohicky anti-blur stuff or something.

I'm telling you the more I'm looking at TVs the more they all look the same!
