Started April 2025.

Equipment List
  • Oceanguard 790
    • Volume
      • Display Tank - 155 US Gallons
      • System - 209 US Gallons
  • 2x ATI Straton Led (Original)
  • 2x Sicce SDC 6 (main return + UV return)
  • Spectrapure ATO
  • GHL Maxi Doser 2.2 (3 gal AWC daily)
  • GHL Doser 3.0 (ESV B-ionic 2-part)
  • GHL Propeller Breeze 3 (Fan)
  • 2x Redsea Wave 45
  • 2x Tunze 6155
  • Aqualogic (Ranco) Temp Controller
  • Inkbird controller for GHL Propeller Breeze 3
  • Ultra Reef Skimmer Typhoon UKD-200
  • Octo Aquatics Controller Board
  • Avast Plank (Auto fish feeder)
  • Lifegard 90w UV Sterilizer
Fish
  • 2x Lightning Maroon Clown fish
  • Yellow belly blue tang
  • Blue-green chromis
  • Lyretail Anthias
  • Blue-eyed Bristletooth Tang
  • Pink-streaked wrasse
  • 2x Genicanthus melanospilos
  • Golden Lined Rabbitfish (Disappeared - probably killed by the Lightning Maroon clown).
  • Yellow Tang
A few livestock were from my old Cade tank, but a lot of them died when I was remodeling my house and relocated them into a temporary 100g Rubbermaid tub without filtration. In hindsight, I should have sold my coral before remodeling my house. My Sunset Montipora, on a rock, is growing back after suffering in the Rubbermaid tub. The CC 21 Tails Torch lost some heads. I fragged the main colony and sold a lot of peices. I recently added a Tubbs Stellata colony, TSA The Fuzz, Rainbow Loom, and TSA Fruity Pebbles from Water World Aquatics. Also added a Candy Apple Torch. Got it from a local reefer on Facebook. I'll be adding more coral later on after seeing how these new coral grow.

I forgot to mention that I had issues with the plumbing. The water level in the display was not stable and would cause the ATO to dump fresh water, reducing the salinity. I dealt with this problem for 2 months after finding out the salinity dropped to 1.022 - 1.023. The salinity changed so much since I was doing an AWC which was dependent on the sump water level. However, with some help from R2R, I trimmed the emergency drain stand pipe so that the water level wouldn't rise so much in the display. I don't know why they designed the emergency drain pipe to be so high.

That urchin reminds me of the game of thrones Iron throne. Set up is looking great so far.

The tank is very new. I set it up in April. I went bare bottom this time since I don't want to clean the sand.

How do you like the the controller board? I have most of Matt’s stuff and was looking at that the other day. Great setup overall.

Thanks. It is high quality. The hinges are strong unlike other brands. However, I got a lot of cables and power bricks stuffed inside, so it was a little hard closing the door. For some reason, it didn't come with mounting screws, but I used my own screws and drywall anchors anyways. I requested for a free large external platform just in case I needed it in the future. It can be used for a doser or automatic tester, for example.

Made a hole in the wall for the AWC and to refill the ATO container. On the other side is an outdoor sink.
Your build looks Cool the control pannel is inspring as well. What type of face plate cover is this?

If you know some general name or term for it so I could ask or search for one like it. Thanks.

I could see a use for one or two to go through a wall neatly to run dosing lines from my controller on main tank to my frag system. I would need any holes to be very neat and not a crazy eyesore. What you did here looks legit.

ALK steady at 7.5-8.

Tested Phos and Nitrate for the first time (7/12/25):

Phosphate = 0.334 ppm or 109 ppb Phosphorus (Hanna Phosphorus checker). Repeated test and it was about the same. Replaced the battery and brought new reagent to ensure it was accurate.
Nitrate = 0

Kind of surprised that the phos is so high. Any tips of lowering phos? Currently, my tank looks okay. Thinking of reducing feeding and running the skimmer more wet. I have AF phosphate minus that came with the tank. Maybe I’ll use that..

If everything looks fine just let the phosphate ride. The zero nitrate is something I'm running into right now and even with feeding 7x daily I'm still at like 0.5.

Wondering if anyone else here is feeding ammonia or nitrate?
Yes, maybe i'll see how the coral grow with the high phos. If I see any negative effects, i'll try lowering phos. So far corals are doing fine.

Torch polyps more extended when increasing my Gyres to 100%.

Montipora growing back on the rock.

Tubbs Stellata doing fine. Some tips got broken off into frags while moving the coral around and are now almost healed after 2 weeks.

Quoting from reading/listening/watching @Thales, Dong, ..., ammonia "juice is not worth to squeeze". There is no real scientific study, evidence, stats to back it up. Nitrate is safer bet.

The long spine urchins I had were causing damage to my SPS frags so I had to remove them. Also, I felt like they weren't eating the algae since they were too large to reach in the small crevices.
