I use two of these one at each end at a 45 degree angle mid depthYeah for me it's mainly when making a standing wave. You want as much contrast between the max pulse and the min pulse to get a really good wave going. When I had Tunze pumps and had them set to zero, they would occasionally lock up and were all herky jerky turning all the way off then on with each pulse.
Edit - I am using Jebao SOW20s now for a wave, and they are still very effective, for anyone reading
Jebao SCP-180 Sine Cross Flow Pump Wave Maker
Tossed them in about 3 years ago never been outa tank with zero issues just hit with toothbrush once in a while and knock off them peskyVermetidae worms!
For pulse wave current I have an older tunze turbelle 500-2500 gph about 8 inches below angled up on one end since I don’t like standing waves lol..at this angle the water flow bounces off the top midway and redirects it down bottom other end of tanks sorta circling back down low.. Combined with the jeboas mixes everything up nicely for my taste plus zero detritus settling anywhere with a bunch of pooping tangs!
